It has a certain camp grooviness, though...

I suggest that a committee be formed to confer a Noebel Prize annually for the most striking example of earnest hysteria.

Has anyone read this example of clear thinking?

Yes, I have (and how I wish I knew enough about keyboard trickery to have put that in very very tiny text).

I seem to remember that the Reds found that the monotonous primitive beat (can't remember whether the African Jungle Drums card was played) of the Beatles' music--which was apparent from the get-go, what with songs like 'And I Love Her' and 'Till There Was You'--had an hypnotic effect which lulled innocent if misguided wannabe hep-cat American youth into a state in which they'd be receptive to Communist propaganda. I so regret not keeping the thing but at least I kept Traitors in the Pulpit and Treason Toward God, which deals with the 'Trojan plot' to destroy US churches and which, now that I've glanced at it again & noticed a reference to the preacher who insidiously propagates Russian propaganda by mentioning his love of dogs, I shall be reading tomorrow.

Oh, my, those diabolical, pupilless eyes. What other evidence could you need?

Hitler had the same reaction to jazz ("Jewish" music) and modern art. The waltz was considered shameless and indecent compared to the minuet. The Chinese were convinced that the Japanese used pornographic imagery to soften up the moral fiber of China.

And of course you're aware of the caliber of disaster indicated by the presence of a pool table in your community...

7: thanks so much for the synopsis. It is actually funnier than I would have been able to imagine. More about the use of dogs in the commie propaganda war, please!

anna, it turns out that the dog-loving minister had (supposedly) founded a church whose congregation was dogs. How this was related to the communist campaign to infiltrate & undermine churches, Mr Goff doesn't really say. I dunno, maybe doggy biscuits shaped like hammers & sickles were used for communion? but in that case were the commies hoping to found a canine cell? to do what? attack cats that belonged to proper Christians?

The thing was sludge & I could only skim it but, >10 Meredy:, you'll be pleased to hear that a pool table was mentioned in it.

A caviar communist for sure. Wasn't he eyeing the oysters in Aylice ?

For what it's worth, I first heard Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band the same beautiful, 1967 afternoon that I first inhaled.
