We're Through !
We're Through !
Crazy newspaper headline about the English football team in the World Cup today.
Through as in “Finished” ?
Through as in “into the last sixteen”?
Don't ask us.. .. .. .. We only print the thing !
Any more good headlines anyone?

Perhaps an echo of the mantra of the old-fashioned switchboard operator about to disconnect the customer's call: "Putting you through now..."

Not a headline but a Netflix ad on TV claims that:
You can watch all episodes of "Orange Is the New Black" instantly.
I didn't know that they had developed direct-to-the-brain video. Even when they do it will probably take a few seconds for the download. Come to think of it, is anything 'instant'?

>4 darrow: Since it is all of them instantly, it also seems then to be all of them at once. How confusing!

>4 darrow: No, it's an American TV show about an upper middle class woman sentenced to a federal prison (where they wear orange prison wear, get it?).

It's a concept you could easily broaden to any story for slow news days: the traditional "Canine remains bitten by human", or the more exotic "David Cameron remains elected".

"David Cameron remains elected".
Thanks to all for a good laugh on that one. “Does the team think” electing a leader (PM or President) who is already dead would make any difference to government?

It's tempting to say "no", but sadly it's probably not true. (If you wanted to be malicious, you could argue that the UK tried the experiment in 1951, and it wasn't a great success...)

Surely 'still dead' is a tautology? If the subject were mobile rather than still then I think you'd need an ambulance rather than a hearse ...
In Franco's case, though, I think I would continue to choose the hearse, and make up a good story at the crematorium.

>20 jjwilson61: Thanks for that clip. It was an episode we in the UK missed out on. I have often seen reference to it and not quite understood the meaning.

Here is a gem from the BBC website today:
David Cameron will set out plans to counter the threat posed by Islamic State militants to MPs on Monday.

Why would the Islamic State militants choose Monday to threaten MPs?
