I enjoy this site and have looked forward to utilizing it to the fullest. However, I have to say how disappointed I was when someone flagged my author picture. I used one of my bookcovers. I do have an older pic of me on my member profile. It is about 15 or more years old.
If I have to take my picture down, will I be allowed to refuse to post an author's pic? I am terminally ill. I have been fighting colon cancer for 6 years. I was just told a couple of days ago, I have grown immune to chemo and there is nothing left for my doc to do. (I am in the process of applying for clinical trials at The James Cancer hosp. at OSU campus. A last ditch effort, I will be a lab rat.)

I am bone thin, I have no hair, eyelashes, or even eyebrows. I am orange/yellow because the cancer took my liver over. I lost everything due to cancer. I lost my job for missing too much work. I thought I would lose my mind. If not for my writing, my poetry...I don't think I could have lived these past few years. I have lived over a year longer than expected. Frankly, with everything I am dealing a picture nazis is about the last thing I need.

I know many of you have been touched by the ugly hand of cancer whether personally or fearing for a loved one. You know what it is like to wear these shoes. I ask you to have it in your heart to drop this matter. I use my bookcover or blog logo all the time and no one else has ever said a word.

I could use the same pic I chose to use for my member pic. As an author, I do not want to. That image is no longer me. I do not like seeing it. This issue is very important to me. I do not like negativity or conflict. I only want to feel welcomed.

Renee,

Images on an author page are intended to be images of the author. Your book's cover art will appear on the book page.

Unlike some other book sites, the author pages on LibraryThing are not not intended to "belong" to the author, or to provide a space for promoting the author's books. They are meant to be a space for objective, factual information about the author.

Of course, as a member, you can post anything you like on your personal profile page.

I hope this helps you understand why the image you posted was flagged.

By the way, calling people "nazis" will not cause anyone to sympathize with you.

I am sorry, I am upset. I was not referring to anyone specifically. It is more of the policy itself that I am referring to. If I am forced to remove my pic it will go blank
I am a member of several sites just like this and my pic has never been a problem. Library Thing is not the only site such as this. I realize this does not matter, as LT can have any type of rules they want. I just wanted to clarify this.
I cannot agree with this policy in a case such as mine.

Unless I am losing my mind...I think the flag has been removed? I can't find it. If so...I thank whoever removed it. I am embarrassed how upsetting this was too me. I've cried all day. Maybe I am just over-sensitive. In any case....THANK YOU!

Renee, as lilithcat wrote, author pages don't "belong" to the author. There are strict rules for these pages, such that they contain objective, factual information, and any images have to be of the author (consider them encyclopedic rather than social).

I see you just joined LT, and that's great, and if you do "look forward to utilizing it to its fullest", then I suggest you use your book cover as your profile page photo (and upload your current profile photo as an author image). Why? Well, when you sign into the site, you first go to your profile page, and it's from there that you'll be utilizing the site by cataloging your reading, writing reviews, and so on. In fact, it will likely be rare that you even go to your own author page at all.

Welcome to LT, and while you're here, have a look at some of the groups that have reading interests similar to your own. I'm sure you'll meet many like-minded readers.
