I just found a copy of The Great Barrier Reef by Mary E Patchett, author of the Brumby and Ajax books.

It was not listed in her works here on LT, so I added it. Are any of you familiar with it? Is it part of the Ajax or Brumby series, perhaps renamed?

Any input would be appreciated. :)

A search for Ajax on google books seems to agree with you that it is in the Ajax series.

"Patchett wrote a number of books that have Ajax as the hero, but there is no formal name or numbering. Some have mention of Ajax in the subtitle and some foreign language titles have Ajax in the title or subtitle which does not occur in the English title. The series sequence therefore reads: Ajax the Warrior (1953); Tam the Untamed (1954); Treasure of the Reef (1955); Return to the Reef (1956); Outback Adventure (1957); Call of the Bush (1959); The End of the Outlaws (1961); The Golden Wolf (1962); Ajax and the Haunted Mountain (1963); Ajax and the Drovers (1964). From that page, is "Treasure of the reef" the same as "The great barrier reef"? Do you have both to confirm?

I don't have both books, but The Great Barrier Reef does have Ajax in it. I believe both it and Treasure of the Reef are one and the same, but hesitate to confirm it.

The above austlit site says it's an alternate title so I'd agree it's the same book.

Does The Great Barrier Reef say anything on its title page about originally published as... or original copyright date?

According to worldcat.org, original copyright date of The Great Barrier Reef is 1955, same as Treasure of the Reef.

There, 1955 on the title page.

Lutterworth Press, London, England, 1955. That is Treasure of the reef.

Google Books finally turns up proof.

The Writers Directory - Volume 5 - Page 727
Thomson Gale - 1981 - ‎Snippet view
... Lost on Venus (in U.S. as Flight to the Misty Planet), 1954; Evening Star, 1954; Adam Troy, Astro- man, 1954; "Your Call, Miss Gaynor," 1955; Treasure of the Reef, 1955; (in U.S. as The Great Barrier Reef, 1958); Undersea Treasure Hunters, ...

I'm combining the two.

That also reveals a few others that were retitled in the USA. Sorting through....

Great work, thank you!

There's an Australian site on which I've found snippets of information, but they won't let me register, which limits my searches.

You "done good", girl!

That should sort that author for a while. She wrote more books than listed on LT. The above AustLit site did confirm the two titles were alternate titles, but the Google Books site confirmed for sure it was republished in the USA and both were the same.
