I am in the process of starting a new church library, and am using Library Thing as an inventory, and reference/search tool, but still need to use the old fashioned card system to loan the books out. However I cannot find a supplier of the pockets/cards, and Due Date slip. Can anyone help, please?

PS. I am in New Zealand, although I am happy to get them shipped here, if needed.

Hello from Colorado! The National Library of New Zealand has this list of library suppliers on their website as follows (intended for schools, but I assume they would sell to church libraries also):

Ruth in Colorado here again -- In my previous message on where to find library supplies in NZ, I forgot to include instructions for printing small labels from LT to be affixed to book cards. Here is the method I use:

1. In Excel or Word, create a template for Avery 5160 labels (30 per sheet), which fit on a book card.
2. In LT, click on Your Books, then click the display style you've set up (A-E) for Author/Title only.
3. Click the Printer Icon ("Show Printable Catalog") that appears at the end of the Display Style row.
4. Highlight/select the author/title record(s) that need book card labels. Click Edit, then Copy.
5. Paste the selected record(s) into an editable document, then re-format the author/title lines as you want
them to display on your book card labels.
6. Highlight/select a re-formatted record, then go to the Avery 5160 label template & click the Paste icon (or
Edit, then Paste). Note: If you can transfer more than one record at a time so that they will all align
properly on the label sheet, this process will be much speedier.
7. Print the completed labels on a sheet of Avery 5160 (or compatible) labels & affix them to the book cards.

We order from Demco but they may not be available in NZ. Anyway, for cataloging and labeling books, I use a template that has, in each row, a spine label and two card labels. I type all three labels as I catalog, and then the spine label goes (surprise!) on the spine, one label goes on a lined card, and the other label goes on the card pocket, which is stuck in the front of the book.

People write the date and their name on the book card and we collect and file them. We use plain pink or blue cards for date due (not that we have fines or anything - it's more of a reminder that we want the book back eventually!)

We buy our spine labels from Vernon Library Supply. We put clear label protectors over the spine labels that are called Label-Lock. We get those from The LibraryStore. Both have held up well.
