Hoping someone can help me out. Trying to remember some pictures books of my childhood - they were library books, and I would have been reading them in 1980 or thereabout.
Here goes - they involved creatures that seemed to be blobs, of different colours and sizes. More 'cartoonish' than 'painterly' illustrations (I can see them in my mind's eye). For some reason I am thinking they were originally Italian or Scandinavian, but don't know why.
Sorry this is so vague, but it has been bugging me for years! Any suggestions or help much appreciated.

Maybe Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak? They're not really blobby, just hefty monsters. When you look at the cover on the Book Page for it, you should know right away if that's the one.

No, definately not WtWWA (a favourite in our house BTW) but thanks for the suggestion. Much more 'blobby' than the monster in that one.

The Mr Men books? Very colourful with most of the Characters being round or ovalish. The books are all named things like Mr Bump, Mr Trouble and Mr Nosey.
They're not Scandinavian though.

Barbapapalooks like what I remember, but I don't remember people in them...is there more than one blobby character?
