Amazing.. Christine De Pizan was one of the first woman to take up writing in defense of her sex against the false accusations made by men. Even more amazing considering she did this in the last 13 hundreds. Very well written.

First of all I didn't realize this is the second book in a series. I hate when that happens. Particularly because I think I own the first book. With that being sad it was a great book. You don't need to have read the first book to understand this book but it will of course ruin the first book.

Loved the characters, well written and hooked me from the beginning. I don't always love Nicholas Sparks book but this one was great.

Home by Toni Morrison
4 of 5 stars

Not my favorite Toni Morrison - but still a good book.

When Frank Money joined the army to escape his too-small world, he left behind his cherished and fragile little sister, Cee. After the war, his shattered life has no purpose until he hears that Cee is in danger.

Frank is a modern Odysseus returning to a 1950s America mined with lethal pitfalls for an unwary black man. As he journeys to his native Georgia in search of Cee, it becomes clear that their troubles began well before their wartime separation. Together, they return to their rural hometown of Lotus, where buried secrets are unearthed and where Frank learns at last what it means to be a man, what it takes to heal, and--above all--what it means to come home-

But What if Everything We Thought We Knew About Them...was Wrong? Walt Gaines is a prominent archaeologist, husband of thirty years, and father of three. But after his wife is murdered near an ancient Mayan ruin, he cuts off nearly all contact with his family. Now Walt's sons decide to perform an excavation of their own. America's Hidden History by Kenneth C. Davis
4 of 5 stars
Planted 5/3/2008 - my mass entry day for librarything
Uprooted 8/26/2014

Very quick interesting read. Great selection of interesting tales from america's past.

From Back of book
Kenneth Davis presents a collection of extraordinary stories, each detailing an overlooked episode that shaped the nation's destiny and character. Davis's dramatic narratives set the record straight, busting myths and bringing to light little-known but fascinating facts from a time when the nation's fate hung in the balance.

Spanning a period from the Spanish arrival in America to George Washington's inauguration in 1789, America's Hidden History is an iconoclastic look at America's past, connecting some of the dots between history and today's headlines, and proving why Davis is truly America's teacher.

Find out:

Which Pilgrims arrived in Florida fifty years before the Mayflower sailed.
What Supreme Court Justice went to prison.
What traitor is honored with a statue for his bravery.
Which fighting woman in colonial New England scalped her Indian captors.

Soulless by Gail Carriger
5 of 5 stars
Planted 10/22/2014
Uprooted 9/4/2014

What a great little gem that I have had stashed away! I am glad I also horded away the next two in the series :)

From Amazon:
Alexia Tarabotti is laboring under a great many social tribulations. First, she has no soul. Second, she's a spinster whose father is both Italian and dead. Third, she was rudely attacked by a vampire, breaking all standards of social etiquette.

Where to go from there? From bad to worse apparently, for Alexia accidentally kills the vampire -- and then the appalling Lord Maccon (loud, messy, gorgeous, and werewolf) is sent by Queen Victoria to investigate.

With unexpected vampires appearing and expected vampires disappearing, everyone seems to believe Alexia responsible. Can she figure out what is actually happening to London's high society? Will her soulless ability to negate supernatural powers prove useful or just plain embarrassing? Finally, who is the real enemy, and do they have treacle tart?

SOULLESS is the first book of the Parasol Protectorate series: a comedy of manners set in Victorian London, full of werewolves, vampires, dirigibles, and tea-drinking.
