For those that saw my original faulty post back in November, this is my attempt at a re-do.

When I was age 6 or so, my folks decided we needed a dog. I was honored with the choice of dog and picked a charming, cute & lovable springer spaniel puppy. Snuffy (hey, I was "6 or so") was with us about 2 months or so when the family went out for dinner. As puppies will do, he wandered around the house looking for something fun to do when no one was home. We had a bookcase with low shelves and, apparently, he looked for something to read while we were gone.

He picked out a leather bound book and devoured it - literally. It was the King James Bible and he chewed the thing to bits. Perhaps Snuffy was a book reviewer, I'm not sure. I'm pretty sure that he wasn't an agnostic or atheist and didn't relate to any higher being except me, his feeder, brusher and walker (dogs are wonderful). About a week after that episode, Snuffy suddenly checked out - bought the farm - became ill and died at a very early age.

The kid next door, who was much older and wiser(?) than I, opined that it was, "God's revenge." Personally, I might have thought it was indigestion had I really given it a serious thought then.

Poor Snuffy! He sounds like such a discerning dog too.
