Getting the scent out of tea tins

I have 5 tea tins that had some flavored black tea and some fruity herbal. I've washed them out with Dawn and put baking soda in them to absorb the scent, but it hasn't helped much. I can still identify which tin held which tea by the smell. Any ideas on getting the scent out?

Perhaps putting a slice of white bread in each? I could be wrong, but I thought I recalled this for absorbing musty book odor, so maybe it would work for tea tins?

This is pretty much a stab in the dark and I can't vouch for it, but ... keeping charcoal biscuits in them for a while?

New mugs and tins come with little sachets of odour-humidity pebbles of some sort. I imagine they'd work if you have any left behind. Goodluck.

Those little packets contain silica gel. I think you can buy it in bulk, or just salvage some packets from other products.

However, it's usually employed against moisture, not odor. Not sure whether it would have an effect any better than baking soda, which IS employed against odor.

You can also get little packets with a mineral called zeolite in them, that are good for both odour and moisture. I don't know if it would help the tea tins.

The baking soda did not work even though I left it in for a long time. I've been airing them out for weeks now. I'll have to close them up again for a few days and see if the smell is completely gone.
