Recently I received two new books on this fascinating Civil War battle; both are parts of two new Civil War series: Chickamauga 1863: Rebel Breakthrough (Battles and Leaders of the American Civil War) and Bushwhacking on a Grand Scale: The Battle of Chickamauga, September 18-20, 1863 (Emerging Civil War). Chickamauga has always interested me, I suppose since I had several direct ancestors on the field. Over the years I've rad about it, wargamed it, and made several visits. Mendoza has an excellent bibliographic essay, which I highly recommend.

For those interested in the battle and the Army of Tennessee, please check here for titles of interest:

I strongly recommend David Powell's The Chickamauga Campaign — A Mad Irregular Battle; the first volume in Savas Publishing's new three volume study of the battle. Volume one, 696 pages, impresses.

Great news; the second volume in David Powell's Chickamauga trilogy is now out. I highly recommend both

The Chickamauga Campaign - A Mad Irregular Battle: From the Crossing of Tennessee River Through the Second Day, August 22 - September 19, 1863 and

The Chickamauga Campaign - Glory or the Grave: The Breakthrough, the Union Collapse, and the Defense of Horseshoe Ridge, September 20, 1863.

Can't wait for Savas to publish the third volume.

(no idea why touchstone failed)
