21 - The Last Voyage of Captain Jack Aubry

What did the group think of this book? I got a library copy and thumbed through it. Very sad that O'Brian did not finish it. More sad that his estate published this partial rough manuscript that is unworthy of his legacy.

I deliberately haven't read it. I don't want, as you say, a "partial rough manuscript" to be my last contact with Jack and Stephen. Better to leave them at the end of Blue at the Mizzen, which is an ending, than trailing off into nothing.

Couldn't agree more. I though Blue at the Mizzen was a good note on which to leave the Captain and the Doctor. I did not read them all in sequence, but now that I own the series I will go back and read them all again. I read The Golden Ocean last week for the first time (!) so I'm ready to begin anew. Does anyone know if there is a group on LibraryThing for the Hornblower series? Interested in starting one?

+1 to avoiding the unfinished manuscript. I've read up to the Yellow Admiral, and have had The Hundred Days and Blue at the Mizzen on my shelf for six months now. I guess there's a part of me that just doesn't want to finish the series. And certainly not finishing with an unfinished work.
