Who is your favourite character in Discworld?
I can't help but love Death and the Librarian. Ook?

Susan was my first favourite character. That is because I started with Thief of Time. Other favourites are Sam Vimes, DEATH, Chrysoprase the Troll, Tiffany and Granny and Nanny and all the witches!

I would hate to choose a favourite - it's usually whoever I'm reading about at the moment. I'm quite partial to Moist Von Lipwig, though.

Vimes. Also Young Sam and Willikins. I love how cynical the watch books are.

Vimes :) Maybe because I started with the Guards books... but he remained my favorite even after I read all the books.

Death is my favourite. I'm not sure what a psychologist would be of that choice >;-) That might be partly affection, because Mort was my first book - and I was hooked.

All of the characters so far mentioned are great, but this list would be incomplete without Carrotte, Leonard of Quirm, and we can not forget "The Luggage". Not much in the way of lines, but the luggage adds a lot to the tales it shows up in.

#8 - I do get funny looks when I go around telling people that I love Death. ;)

Too many others I love as well, but Vimes and Vetinari are right up there, along with Granny Weatherwax.

One thing I enjoy about Pratchett, is the way he coaxes you into loving difficult characters. Vimes starts out in the gutter, running from his responsibilities (or rather run down by his ineffectiveness), Granny is remote and distant, Moist is a slimy thieving self-absorbed man, Vetinari is, well, Vetinari. But we are allowed glimpses inside each of them, and I'm putting Rincewind in the mix here because I quite like that unlikely hero too, which allows us to not only tolerate, but to love each of them. We can identify with them and they speak for us in ways we would not dare.
