Interested in any and all attempts to render alien languages in fiction---including the actual language as well as its "rendering" into English; i.e., using an "English" "equivalent" in the book to avoid "reader fatigue" :-)

I've read a couple of books around this theme. They deal with linguistics and first contact with aliens, maybe not what you're talking about, but I found them interesting. Fluency and Damocles

I alllllmost bought a copy of Fluency yesterday at a used bookstore, but was intrigued/leery of the publisher: Blue Bedlam Books, or Blue Bedlam Science Fiction. Never having heard of this publisher before, I decided to go home and do a little research. Well...strangely enough, when you google "Blue Bedlam Books" they have no online presence at all other than a few mentions--all of which pertain to this author/book. And if you google "Blue Bedlam Science Fiction" you can find the LLC registration, of which the agent for the LLC is none other than Jennifer Wells, the author of this book. So, lo and behold, this book looks like some self-published project. And while there are very, very, very, VERY rare instances where a self-published book might be intriguing, 99.99999% of the time the books are (sorry, but to be blunt) crap. I think I'll steer clear of this one (especially after reading a couple of the reviews here on LT).
