I thought I would revive this thread.

I am looking for the whole Song of Fire and Ice Series for my SIL to give her husband for Christmas. They are very short on money this year and I know that the chances of snagging them on BM are slim so I thought I would ask here.

Hardback would be great but PB works just as well.

I MIGHT be able to help with the first one. Hold on while I check... :( no, I have an extra GoT, but it's a MMP. It's just so large that it didn't look like one.

If decide you want it anyway I can send it. It has been read though, still very good condition, but it has edgewear.

I'm looking for children's books illustrated by Demi; she has a series of biographies for Mary, St. Francis, Columbus, Marco Polo, Genghis Khan, etc. etc. etc. as well as fairy tales and folklore. If you're thinking of getting rid of kid's books by this author, please think of me! :)

I am always looking for young children's books in German. We have a decent collection, but I need to use my bookmooch points on something... :)

My son is 19 months right now, so we're mainly into board books at the moment, but I would take anything in the pre-chapter books stage. We are near Seattle. We have a daughter on the way, so girly books are OK too.

I'm looking for recommendations for narrative history novels for my dad for Christmas. He liked the Winning of America series by Allen W. Eckert, so I'd like to get him more like those, but this is not my genre so I don't know what I'm looking for.

Depending on what sort of History, Pompeii by Alex Butterworth is an interesting mix of novel and history. And if the fictional aspect is less important than just a rolicking good read (as well as being interesting and well researched), Terry Jones's history books are something I heartily recommend. They're often revisionist, or at least showing the other side of something we rhink we know the history of.Medieval Lives is the simplest to dip into, but I also really enjoyed Barbarians and The Crusades. Who Murdered Chaucer? is also good, but more specifically focused.

>11 joannasephine: The Pompeii book might be just the thing. My dad's screen name even contains "AD 79." I see there are History Channel DVDs of the Terry Jones books which he'd probably like too. History is definitely more interesting in the hands of Monty Python. Thanks for the recs!

You might also try Nicholas and Alexandra by Robert Massie. It's a biography - but my sister read it and enjoyed it so much she was startled later to find that it was a biography and not a novel. He also wrote Catherine the Great and several others.

Edward Rutherfurd writes excellent historical novels - New York, London - very involving and informative books on the history of a particular city ...

The Whiskey Rebels by David Liss is excellent and both my father and uncle loved it -- I liked it a lot, too. It takes place when George Washington is president and since it seems early American history is his thing, you might want to stick to that.

The Worst Hard Time by Timothy Egan is non-fiction, but reads like fiction, with a strong narrative voice. It would tie in nicely if your father watched the Ken Burns series. And, not to stereotype, but older men tend to like non-fiction.

The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara is the best novel I've read about the Civil War.

>10 macsbrains: Macs -- my stepdad read, loved and recommended to me Aztec by Gary Jennings. Very enjoyable, highly readable and filled with a sly humor. Not a period or locale with which I'm familiar, but it captured my imagination. There are some sex scenes in it, and some older people might have difficulty with that.

Also Robert MacNeil (of PBS MacNeil & Lehrer fame) wrote a lovely book Burden of Desire about the WWI Halifax explosion.

Would also recommend the books of Geraldine Brooks and echo the comments on Killer Angels.

Looking for Leviathan Wakes by James S.A. Corey. I'm in the US and can't mooch internationally (or rather I prefer not to.) Anyone in the US have this?

Hello everyone,

I'm currently part way through The Kalevala and I'm looking for some more Finnish translations and/or books about Finnish culture. Specifically, I'm looking for the following books but would also be open to suggestions!

New Finnish Grammar, Diego Marani
Seven Brothers, Aleksis Kiva
Kanteletar, comp. Elias Lonnrot
The Egyptian (Sinuhe Egyptiläinen), Mika Waltari

Thanks!

I'm looking for books on food additives/e-numbers in French, Japanese and English. I already have two Dutch ones, Wat zit er in uw eten? and E=eetbaar?. However, when I go to other countries and I have to buy food there, I'd like to know which ingredients they contain :) (because of allergies). I'm going to France in April, so I thought at least a French book would be useful (though luckily France = Europe so I can use my Dutch book for a large part, I think).

If you just have a title but not a moochable book, that's okay too :)

I might be misunderstanding, but a good book in English that is extremely informative about food additives is Stefan Gates on Es. Not willing to part with my copy, but it is a good one!

So I'm tentatively finally going back to finish school (just one class this semester), and it's going to be awful but what can you do besides sobbing dramatically about hating the higher education system blah blah blah. Does anyone have any of the following:

The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao ISBN 1594483299 (my ARC isn't good enough for class and it's the most time-sensitive.)

Children of Men ISBN 0307275434

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? ISBN 0345404475

The local library system has them all in varying degrees of availability, but I don't want to chance it if I can avoid that, and I have all these BookMooch points . . . I can do extra points, and/or if you're US-based I should be able to send books back to you after class ends. It'll still be less expensive than buying them!

>23 chelonianmobile: I have that ISBN for Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep and I can loan it to you.

(Good luck with school. My own experiences in higher education doing 1 class at a time was also cause for many occasions of exhausted dramatic sobbing. More power to you for going back at all.)

I'm looking for this for a dear friend. I *thought* I had it, but I can't find it anywhere. There's a few used copies on Amazon for $10, which I can't buy, but if anyone here CAN, I'm more then willing to offer 15 *extra* points (besides the mooch-point).

I just saw a review of The primal connection on someone's weblog. It sounded interesting, so I was wondering if anyone has it and wants to put it on Bookmooch?
Otherwise, you can also take a look at my wishlist http://bookmooch.com/m/wishlist/selene (at the end are the Japanese books) or the short wishlist on my profile if you have any Buffy/Angel/Tarzan books :)

wester: I am not yet sure if the book is anything for me, because you say he's a bit too popie-jopie, which seems to be the opinion of from some other reviews I found too.
But I am interested in taking a look at it, so can I mooch it from you?
