I know this thread is a bit late, since many of you have already finished your challenges. But when you finish, drop a line here so we can all congratulate you!
2Yells
I did a full challenge and finished yesterday. The jury is out on whether to continue with next years but I might take some expert advice (thanks!) and go for a broad (really broad categories) challenge with limited scope (namely TBR stuff only).
3cbl_tn
>2 Yells: Congratulations! I hope you decide to stick around. I've found that broad categories work well for me. They give me enough flexibility that I don't begin to feel like I'm reading things I have to read rather than things I want to read.
I finished a few weeks ago and I'm enjoying some "free reading" time before starting the 2013 challenge.

Congratulations on meeting your goals! It's great that we're getting some people in the finished category.

I went with broad categories and vague numbers so that I wouldn't have any guilt about not meeting the challenge. That way I could just read what comes along.
7LittleTaiko
Yea! I have technically finished my challenge - minimum of five books in each category. I've actually read more than that, but finally read the last book in the classics category so can consider myself done. I'll continue to keep updating though as I want to see how many I read this year.
9cbl_tn
Congratulations on finishing! I'm glad you'll still be adding to your thread through the rest of the year.
10-Eva-
Congratulations!! Glad to hear you're sticking around and hope you're all coming back for next year's challenge!!

Good for you!

Congrats, soffitta1!
23soffitta1
Thanks! I'm restraining myself! Mainly because that way I can check out my books in the UK, easier for categories than if I start now with the random selection I have in Spain.
24-Eva-
Congrats from me too! For the rest of the year, I'd suggest concentrating on books that won't fit into your 2013 challenge. :)
29DeltaQueen50
Just stopped by to add my congratulations to all who have completed their challenge.
31mathgirl40
Congratulations to all of you! I'm looking forward to seeing what you have planned for 2013.
32mysterymax
I'm done! All 170 of them... (I had added 26 to my total because I had read 26 before 2012 actually started and then decided that I really would like to mark Jan to Dec reads) It's getting into a busy time, plus we are having roof damage repaired and wet ceiling damage repaired (thanks, Sandy) so it is kind of hit and miss right now with reading.
For certain, I will reread The Shepherd by Frederick Forsyth as it is my "Christmas" read and I am sure I will get a few more in... probably post them on the same thread as I see the "counter" will record 'overs', or at least I think it will.

Congrats on the challenge! Not so congrats on the storm damage - hopefully that gets sorted out soon so you can have a dry Christmas.
34hailelib
Good going on the challenge.
A couple of months ago we were having the top of our sunroom replaced because of water damage so I know that's not a fun project. Hope the repairs go well without any hitches.

36-Eva-
Congratulations on finishing! 170 is a great total!! And, of course, good luck on getting all the damage fixed as soon and as easily as possible!
37mysterymax
Thanks everyone. Hey, the water damage is an inconvenience. When you compare to what people on the coast are going through - tis not a problem.
39DeltaQueen50
Congratuations on completing your Challenge, MysteryMax.

I just saw this thread and am adding my "high fives" to all who've finished. When I thought I was going to retire this year, I set my goal at the full 144. But then I didn't, so I won't make it. But my mini goal each year is to read more than the year before and I've at least done that.
44cyderry
I finished by 12 in 12 - 20-12 = 112! (114 actually)
I allowed myself 32 overlaps but only used 30. Now with the remainder of the year I'm going to to try replace 10 overlaps so that I only use 20 (for the century). Then on to 2013!

I finished off my challenge this morning, but I won't have a final book count yet and there is still another month to go. Up to date I have read the 144 of the challenge, plus 51 from my Bakers Dozen, and 48 books from work, I will keep recording school books until the end of the year (but that's just for my own curiosity). Next year will be a much bigger challenge...but I will try not to think about that for another three weeks (my tentative start date of December 13th). Congratualtions to everyone else for completing their challenges, I am going to take the time now to have a look at what you have been reading, my thread is here:-http://www.librarything.com/topic/122199
Cheers!

I have just finished my 2012 Challenge this morning and luckily I was able to finish with a five start read. I am looking forward to a free month of reading, but also already anticipating starting the 2013 Challenge in January.
60dudes22
Great job all of you! I won't succeed this year (having set my goal too high), but am living vicariously thru all you who have. AAAH! There's always next year.

I completed my challenge! And I'm already planning obsessively the 2013 category challenge.

It feels like we are all race horses, doing that nervous bit of prancing before going into the starting gate! We're all starting to come in and to be ready to take off again. Well done, everyone! This was my first challenge and I had a great time.

Congratulations to everyone! I am finished with my challenge as well--enjoying a month for free reading!

Congratulations to all who have completed their challenges. As many are starting their 2013 challenge now and moving over to the new site, this place is slowly getting quieter and quieter ....

I'm closing up shop here and reopening over in 2013. I had a wonderful year full of great books. As always, in these challenges, I learn so much from everyone. Thanks to everyone for sharing their thoughts.
91librariansteffen2
Finished. 12/18/12. Now on the next year...
94paeonia
2012 was my first attempt at this challenge, which was really a 6 in 12 challenge, and while I read more than 72 books, they were not all in the categories I chose. (If you are curious, my challenge is here: http://www.librarything.com/topic/130240.) So basically I failed. However, I will try again next year, learning from the lessons of 2012.
95dudes22
>94 paeonia: - The first year is always the most interesting one for trying to fit things into categories. And everyone approaches it slightly differently. This is my 3rd year doing it; I didn't really do groups much in 08; I only followed some people in 09 and then finally did it in 10. And I've switched it around - one year I used the title of the book to fit into the category (I think I like this one the most) I'm probably going to go back to that next year (2014). anyway - congratulations!
PS. I'm failing miserably this year - I foolishly set my goal for the whole 144 thinking I was going to quit work and have more time to read. But that never happened.

I was trying to do 12 categories each (10 - 12) books in Fiction, Nonfiction, and books in German. Currently the fiction is done (12 x 12 except for two categories. one I can't get hold of another in the category, the other the 12th is on order, and might make it in time to be read this year.) German is as done as it is going to get done (10 x 10.) and nonfiction is in a race for the end of the year (12 x 10). Current nonfiction book and two more. Should work I think. Next year I'll do 10 x 10 in each but also an overflow challenge for things I read twice as many books in, or ones I that go over two or three of my basic groupings.
I don't actually set my categories at the start. By now I know many of them, but I like watching what categories 'happen'. This year I have read a lot about language learning and early education in order to better understand the children I volunteer with once a week. That ended up full in both English and German.

I finished yesterday! I'm rather excited, because after not reading anything for two months earlier this year, I really thought I wasn't going to finish.
98hailelib
Congratulations to all the recent finishers.
I've got about two and a half to go so maybe I'll make it but next week has a major project planned that can't wait. Still, I've read more than I actually expected to.

I second the congrats to all the recent finishers and encouragement for everyone still completing their challenges!
I finished my final book for my 12 in 12 last night. Now for some fun reading over the holidays and then over to the 2013 group for next year's reading fun.

Congratulations to everyone who has or is about to make their goal! And also, congrats to everyone else as well--even if you didn't make your goal, you hopefully had lots of good reading. And I am totally impressed with how high a bar some people have set for themselves.
103-Eva-
Congrats to all that have "graduated" since I was last here! I've a few more to go, but since I'm off from work for the rest of the year, I may at least have a chance. :)
ETA: And, I did - finished today with a few days to spare until the new year! :)

Must admit I haven't been updating my thread but I did finish my 144th book for the challenge this morning. Just need to go find my thread now:)
Hope to set up a 2013 Category Challenge thread today or tomorrow.

I finished my last book at 1125 this morning. Practically the last minute as I am working tomorrow and won't get much, if any, reading done n the next couple of days.
