Dear group,

May I firstly say that "Anyone who love animals is my type of person."

And that I have never 'owned a DOG'. My poor!

I am though 'known' - the wanted posters never get the 'right side', do they? -
as a CAT person (on the Cats, books, life is good) Group.

Well, why am I visiting?

I have often seen interactions between cats & dogs which are funny, but more than that.
Just a few stories:

My Friend has an old (17yo. staffie/bullie terrier) The poor old boy has trouble getting up the stairs and
sometimes my mate has to cary him up (I do expect the old fellow to die this year...)

And I still remember him killing a BIG rat in one tenth of a second...
We didn't even know what had happened until that rat was layed at my mates feet.
In his youth!

A few years ago a stray cat (finally, after 3 months of me feeding him) came inside.
A few days later, my friend and DELL (the dogs name) visited.

Well Dell likes to sleep in front of the fire. Suddenly, this stray cat (still unnamed) Ran, I mean really
ran at Dell and Rubbed noses.

Dell did the grumpy Old man growl, but didn't move. The cat (MAX now) just shook its head, as if it say,
"Well if you don't want to play..." and just walked away.

I saw something similar 10 or so years ago with my Lizzy - 18yo now, Burmeses - and a friends chihuahua

Both touched noses, both turned 180 degrees and ran away.
I am still not sure who was more scared.

I do have many dog/cat stories.

Though please do visit out cat group and post any interesting TALES(Tails :-)

Guido.

Guido, I welcome you to come here and talk dogs (and cats).

I am going to make a new thread about interactions between cats and dogs, please post!

Oh Dear,

I see some of the same "muzzles/noses", I have seen in the cat group.
Perhaps there have been "double agents" there all the time.
Yes I am talking about you 'fuzzi'.

SO... any 'guinea pig' agents of influence here?

Rats, snakes, Pandas, Blue Whales...

Paramecia, anyone?

Yes, I confess...I have a foot in each camp: I love dogs AND cats!

In the last 30+ years, there have been very few times when I did not have at least one cat and one dog in the family.

Welcome, Guido! I have a few dog and cat stories that I'll post on the other thread.

Welcome, Guido! I do not have a cat, but my dogs have interacted enough with them that I also have a few stories.

I'm already on both groups, with 2 dogs, 1 foster dog, and 1 cat – the cat and my oldest dog are less than a month apart in age and grew up together acting very much like siblings. Welcome aboard, Guido47!

Dear Group,

Since the main thrust of my OP has shifted to This thread I thought I would retire (not from the group!)
with this story/tale.

I once was the 'uncle' to 10 pure-breed German Shepards.

It began on a new years day when my housemate came home with a 'xylophone ribbed' shepard (about 1 year old)
Probably a dumped "last years" Christmas present.
I really DO hate animal dumpers.

It took her 6 months before she became a puppy again (splayed front legs - lets play)

Eventually he moved and couldn't take her. A friend took her to a temporary flat from which she escaped.
Well, we searched for a day, until she came home with a big *grin* on her face. My mate then moved back to his 10 acre farmlet.

Several weeks later I got a phone call. "congratulations you are the Uncle to 3 puppies..." A bit Later "...6 puppies..."
a bit later "...9 puppies..." and after a while "10".

We hadn't even suspected she was pregnant. No bulge,
nothing. Well when I first saw the puppies they were all black with ONE tiny white hair on their chests.

Being ignorant we assumed they were 'just' Mutts
and just tried to find good homes for them for free.

After we had one puppy left (which my mate keep until she died a few years ago, alas only aged 9) a friend of his who had breed Shepards assured us that they were "Pure"
German Shepards.

Not that I expect that my friend wanted money, but if he
had covered his costs, it would have been nice.

I am just bemused by the idea that when the 'mother' was on heat and escaped, that she had chosen another Shepard to mate with :-)

Guido.

PS. The mother died of cancer at the age of 9, back with
my house mate who took her back after she had been accused of killing sheep (falsely).
Bloody neighbours.

People can be so cruel (dumpers, false accusers).

Thanks for the story.

It might have been nice to cover costs, but much nicer of you and your friend to focus on finding good homes for the puppies.

We did #10, and that's another story :-)

Except I must share the tale of one of the pupies.

The puppies came in 3 lots of 3 each with different personalities, and then there was "BORIS".

Much larger with a massive head an explorer.
Compared to the others he was...different and we thought we would never find him a home. Of course you know what happened. When the very first adopters came (a young girl and her Grandfather, Boris grabbed the old mans trouser cuffs (yes he was that old :-) and that clinched the deal.

Boris was the first to be adopted. Renamed TYSON (after the boxer?) and we heard stories about him for many years.
