Anyone out there interested in getting together for a meal or a drink Labor Day weekend at the Decatur Book Festival? I plan to attend the keynote Friday night (Natasha Trethewey) & will be there parts of the day Saturday & Sunday. I'd love to meet some local book lovers!

You can check out my 2012 75ers thread here.

This is also posted in the LT gatherings & meetups thread.

Thanks for setting this up, Ardene! I'll also go to the keynote address on Friday 8/31, which will be held at the Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts at Emory. I may not be able to attend any other events, as I'm working that weekend.

My 75 Books thread is here.

I would be interested! I know I'm, going on Saturday -- hope to see several authors. Not sure about Friday yet.

#2 Darryl, don't know what your schedule is like on Friday. I have the day off and am happy that Decatur has a book festival right before my birthday on September 4th:)

My tentative plan is to grab a quick bite at the Mediterranean Grill on North Decatur before the keynote. (It's a hole in the wall with a vegetarian plate I love - hummus & baba ganoush, yum!)

Tina, not sure when/where I'll be yet Saturday & Sunday - but we'll figure it out.

>4 markon: Ardene, an old friend of mine is coming to town for the Chick-fil-A Football Classic on Friday night. We'll hang out during the morning and afternoon, and part a couple of hours before kickoff. I've mentioned the DBF to my friend, but I suspect that we won't go during the day, unless his wife (who I haven't met) is an avid reader. I should be able to make the keynote address, though.

Sounds good Darryl. I'm going to try and pick up a ticket for the keynote tomorrow at Eagle Eye books.

Unfortunately, my partner and I scheduled a camping trip this weekend - oops! Totally didn't make the connection that it would conflict with the festival. But we'll be back Sunday and I'll be sure to check out some of the events. Any particular author or reading that people are excited about?

I think we're all excited about different things. I'm going to get to hear Janisse Ray tell some stories about seeds, and get to hear Naomi Benaron talk about writing Running the Rift.

Have fun camping!
