This is the thread we'll be using to list and comment on Concord Free Press books that we own and wish to pass forward to other LT readers who agree to abide by the conditions set by the organization.

The conditions placed on recipients of these books are that they make a donation to a person or charity of their choice when they receive the book, log it on the Concord Free Press website (http://www.concordfreepress.com/) and then pass the book forward to someone else, so that they too, may enjoy the opportunity to share.

I've set up a simple wiki page here for those of you who wish to list your CFP books that you're ready to start passing forward and for anyone interested in putting themselves on the request list to receive the book(s).

Let's make this a great experience.

The wiki is a work in progress ... it's the first one I've created and I'm still trying to figure out how to put the logo of the CFP in it. I've sent a note to Jim to ask for some help ... since I'm not sure that I did it right.

But I've already listed a book there. :-)

The first book listed is A Handbook of American Prayer by Lucius Shepard. Mark has been the first to request it, so if anyone wants this after he's done with it, please request it in the wiki ...... gosh I hope it works.

Caro- Good job setting this up.

My 1st experience was getting a copy of Round Mountain, which was a very good story collection, one I'm still thinking about. I sent my copy to Lucy, who resides in Vermont, where the collection takes place.

Round Mountain is a great book. I still have my copy but I promised it to a fellow Bookcrosser.

I've read the review of Round Mountain and of course Mark's review and went and added my name under Lucy's in the wiki page. :-)

Can someone take a look and let me know if the wiki page works?

Hey, I looked at the wiki and it works fine :)

Also, I do like the idea, but I don't live in the USA... I did request the Handbook of American Prayer from the concord website, so I hope to have a copy to pass along some time in the future...

Thanks for helping check out the wiki, Britt.

I'm not sure that we need to confine the passing forward to the US readers. After all, the objective is to share as widely as possible and the charities we donate to don't have to be US charities or people.

Perhaps if you're not in the US and you'd like to request a book from someone living here, you could send a private request to the book owner and if they're willing to send it to you, you can add your name to the list on the wiki under the current owner.

Yeah, I was thinking of that, to just ask people... But I can imagine some people might not be too happy about sending a book all the way down here, because it does cost extra.
Anyway, for now I'll just wait for the book I requested from Concord, and I'll keep tabs on the thread...

People can always decline a request to send it overseas, but it doesn't hurt to ask. It's like the bookmooch website, there are people who will send books out of their country, but the recipients usually also are people who are willing to send books out of their own country too, as a matter of fairness.

So yes, please do keep tabs on this thread or the wiki ... you never know. ;-)

Another thing you might do is just post next to your name on the wiki what your mailing preference is (i.e. "ship int'l" or "ship US/Canada" or "ship US").

We do that all the time on Bookcrossing and BookMooch. That makes it very clear right up front who will ship where. No further discussion about that subject is then needed.

That's a good idea, Madeline.

I'll get to reading Round Mountain when I get home and send it along!

I just added another book, IOU: New Writing on Money edited by Ron Slate. It was from a couple of books ago, but I had passed it to my son, who recently gave it back because he hadn't had time to read it, which is why I "still" have it.

Let me know if I didn't do it right....

ETA: Oops, looks like I didn't do it right. The names on there are the people who want books? So if I have Round Mountain, I contact the next person on the list to see if they want it?

Well, if anyone is interested in IOU: New Writing on Money, let me know. I thought it was very good!

Terri : Sometimes edits don't take the first time you try and save them. So if you try and save an edit and you get the 'oops, your changes didn't save' notice in red, just go to the bottom and hit the save button again. Usually it'll work the second time.

I added your book to the list on the wiki.

Yes, if you have a copy of Round Mountain and are ready to pass it forward, please contact the next person on the list.... in this case, it would be me. :-) I'll PM you my address. Thanks for participating in this experiment.

Thanks, Caroline! I had edited it, but I misunderstood how it worked, so I went back & deleted what I did. Thanks for fixing me! And I'll send my copy to you as soon as you let me know where!

One thing is for sure, CFS better start pumping out a few more books! It looks like we are a dedicated crew!

Mark - I know ... i've been going to their website to see if they have any new books listed but so far, nada. I'm thinking of dropping them an email to nudge them along... and let them know we've got some folks out here eager to participate and help make this experiment a successful and international one.

Terri - Many thanks. I received it when I got home from my trip! :-)

This is not going to be a very exciting thread if CFP don't start offering more books to request soon.

Hey, everyone. I finished A Handbook of American Prayer. It's a very good book. "Countrylife" is next in line but she did not respond to my PM. Anyone else interested in this title? PM me.

Sorry, Mark, I WAS slow! But you were swift - I've already received the book! I'll come back here with it when I've finished. Thank you!

Finished A Handbook of American Prayer. There's no one listed after me on the wiki. Does anyone here want it, before I place it on Member Giveaway?

I wasn't aware of this thread and wiki and so, when I heard about the CFP from Madeline on the TIOLI thread, I asked them for a copy of Round Mountain.

After I get it and read it, I'd be glad to pass it along.

Caro, thanks for setting this up!!
