The cover I chose for this book, which is the actual cover of the book sitting on my bookshelf, was flagged as inappropriate.

Why?
It clearly says it is the cover of the book Wuthering Heights. It is also the cover of the book I have.
If the problem is that someone combined my Norton Critical Edition (which includes the text PLUS other essays about the work) with another work, then it is a combiners problem, not a cover to be flagged. It IS the cover for the Norton Critical Edition of Wuthering Heights . . . which I have owned since reading it in college in 1980.
Also, can someone tell me an easy way to identify which of my covers have been flagged? I stumbled on this one by accident . . . and am not pleased.

I have scanned and uploaded my own cover and chosen it instead of the one that is flagged. They are identical, so I hope the new one doesn't also get flagged by someone unfamiliar with the work.

Same issue with the Norton Critical Edition of Jane Eyre . . .
Is there a way to flag the flags? This is ridiculous. If you don't actually own the work, don't flag things you don't know about.

Sorry, must be a bug in the flagging thingy.
The Norton Critical editions are separated from the standard works because of their extra content. (I'm not sure I always 100% agree with the practice, but that's another matter.)
These covers got flagged on the standard editions as inappropriate for them. Now somehow they also show up as flagged for the Nortons. Which, obviously, is bad.
The only place you can reasonably quickly see which covers got flagged is : http://www.librarything.com/helpers_covers.php.

I understand weeding out covers that are for different books than those they have become linked with, but really, this has turned into a weird kind of content policing that is most unpleasant.
At a certain point when I looked down the list of flagged covers, my response was "these people need to get a life" . . . sure there are some messy and silly covers . . . if you don't like them, DON'T CHOOSE THEM!

That isn't really the point. If people want to use them - sure. It's not as if your cover is going to disappear. But if the Norton Critical Edition deserves to be a different work then the general edition, then it's cover isn't appropriate for that work.

Okay, fair enough. You do realize a lot of the functionality of this site - recommendations, series info, common knowledge, combining, such stuff - relies on people caring enough to do some maintenance? Call us the janitors if you must. But I don't think we deserve contempt.
That isn't really the point. If people want to use them - sure. It's not as if your cover is going to disappear. But if the Norton Critical Edition deserves to be a different work then the general edition, then it's cover isn't appropriate for that work.

An example: Just because my "Complete works" of Shakespeare contains each of his works, I don't feel my cover for it should show on Hamlet, MacBeth, etc, etc.

That's a red herring. Nobody is stopping anyone from uploading anything they want to use as a cover in their own library; all that this flagging does is prevent covers that aren't applicable from being shown to other users as potentials.

And if you don't like Nigerian scams and V*agra spam, just delete them. No need for your email provider to spend all that time developing spam filters.
"Just ignore them" is a viable suggestion for a rare event. But if one cover on ten on a popular book is garbage, or the only "user-uploaded cover" for an obscure book is a drawing of a cat (which has happened to me on more than one occasion), it becomes less helpful and instead actively annoying.
