There is a rather lovely letter to Dickens in today's "Guardian" newspaper, written by Claire Tomalin. Her new biography of Dickens is well worth reading.

She points out the many changes for the better since his time- no workhouses for example, but also feels that he would find many Mr Merdles and his kind still enjoying success at others expense. I completely agree with her comment that Dickens would have loved modern technology.
