The plastic-eating bacteria is old news, but how about the Amazonian rainforest fungus that eats polyurethane? How would we integrate any of this into our landfills? Would it even be safe, and should it be done? If we were to employ this method, introducing a foreign entity into a foreign (to it) land could possibly cause serious repercussions if certain precautions were not taken. In simple terms, I think landfills would have to become on indoor operation, at least in dissolving polyurethane domestically with foreign substances. Unless the Amazon is your domicile.
