Has anyone else been watching the BBC drama series Call the Midwife? It is based on the memoirs of Jennifer Worth, who worked as a midwife in the poverty-stricken East End of London of the 1950s. I have watched the first three episodes and have really enjoyed each of them.

Being a fan of the music of that era the songs featured in the series is another big bonus for me. Songs like Stranger in paradise & Love is a many splendored thing by The Four Aces and You belong to me by The Duprees (although technically it wasn't recorded until the 60's) were already my favourites. I love the way these songs were weaved into the narrative!

I am also enjoying this. Given the subject matter, I didn't think I would but I was pleasantly surprised. The acting is superb and the whole production seems spot on. The last few episodes have been so emotional and dealt with difficult subjects - I got teary-eyed! I shall be sad to see it end though and hope they'll do another series soon.

# 3 VPaladin, The last few episodes have been good. Everyone acts so well! I can safely say that I love almost all of the characters. I can't believe there is only one episode left in the first season!

I have heard BBC has renewed it for another season but that will not be here till 2013. :-( Can't wait for it!

The books by Jennifer Worth are really good as well - well-written and unsentimental.
