I just looked at it - that's the first I've heard of such paintings. Lovely.

Fore-edged paintings have a long history and there are current practitioners of the art. If you run a Google search you can see pictures of many other examples. There are also double fore edged paintings - if you flex the book in one direction you get one painting and if you flex it in the opposite you get another.
