We had a successful meetup in November based around the Boston Antiquarian Book Fair. Since the New York Antiquarian Book Fair is happening in April, I'm hoping to repeat the phenomenon :)
Although the book fair provides an excuse for a meetup, the meetup would encompass much more than that. In Boston, we had an intensive day of book-shopping before and after the fair, plus brunch and dinner. Some people came for the bookstores and the meals but skipped the fair altogether. Basically, there was something for everyone.
The book fair itself runs from April 12-15, but presumably the Saturday (the 14th) will again work best for everyone.
So, who's in?

I probably won't be able to make NYC but I wanted to post for the benefit of those considering it. I wanted to note that the Boston meetup was great! The antiquarian book fair was less than inspiring (as I expected) but getting a chance to have brunch with Tim & the other LThingers plus a great used bookstore crawl - that was priceless! If I still lived closer to NY I would definitely be there for this one too.

It's on Park Avenue at 67th St., I think. Here's all the information I can find about it.
Jeremy is the one who's actually been there before, though, so he knows far more about it than I do.

Saturday, the 14th is better for me, as I may have to fly on a business trip the following Sunday.

I may be traveling that weekend but if I'm not, then definitely count me in. I'll know my schedule better closer to March.

I'd hoped I would be able to make it, but I think with my work schedule & such that I will not.
Hopefully I'll see some of you at the DC meetup instead.

Well, I'm still happy to do a meet-up since I live in New York.
I think the antiquarian book fair part will depend on whether Jeremy ends up going to that, but we could always just do lunch and book-shopping anyway.

I'm due for a NYC trip, so I'm bumping this thread....

Well, April 14 is looking dead for LT, and I have to make a decision about another event for that day.

I can't make it on April 14. However, I am planning to go to the PEN World Voices Festival of International Literature, which runs from Apr 30 to May 6 at various venues in NYC. I'll attend several talks on Sat May 5, but I'm not sure about the other days yet.

Well, a lot of undecideds in this list. Jim and I are still free, I think, so if anyone plans to be in town, get in touch here and we may yet be able to plan something.

Ok, let's just say that if anyone does want to go to the Book Fair, or wants to have brunch or lunch or drinkson the 14th, please let Jim (magicians_nephew) or me know by PM and we'll see what we can arrange. New Yorkers are famous for being too busy to meet the people who live down the hall, but maybe we can get a few of us together.
I'd offer the 15th, but we're already booked with a monster party going to see 'Moon for the Misbegotten' at the Pearl Theater Co. And believe me, that play is enough to fill the day!

I'd say we should skip the book fair and maybe just do brunch/lunch followed by a bookstore or two for anyone who's interested? Not a major meetup to attract a lot of out-of-towners, but it could still be a nice gathering of locals.

And I'm still trying to get Tim to decide if one or both of us is coming. My hope is yes, but I'll keep you all posted!

Oh, I hope so! It would be great to see you, and I'm sure your presence would also attract more people to the meetup. I chose this day originally just because I thought you'd be likely to be in town for the book fair.

ACK - where did the week go? Tim and I talked about it early in the week and I got the go-ahead to come down, but I realized it was going to have to be a super-fast trip and, given that I have another one of those next week (giving a talk in Maryland) I decided an NYC whirlwind trip wasn't a good plan. I'm sorry I didn't button this up sooner!!!
