Was it the thrill of having your next book chosen for you or the set up for writing a book review?

I'm fairly new on LT (April) and I had already decided to write real reviews (as opposed to a couple lines of notes) on everything I read in the future, so being in the group supports that, but I think it's having someone else choose one of my books for me that really hooked me.

I have a fairly large TBR pile (for me) and I like the idea of having a reason to go through them. It's neat having someone else pick out books for me.

It has also been pretty cool going through other libraries to see what kind of books look interesting.

Since I really enjoy writing reviews anyway this works out well.

I really enjoyed the aspect of having a book chosen for me.

My only problem is that since beginning to add my books to LT, I realized just how many I have that I haven't read and so I've decided to start trying to knock down that number.

I am in the process of tagging those that I'd like to read in the near future and when I get that done, I plan to re-join the game but specify that I'd like a book to be chosen from that tag only.

I've been meaning to write reviews for all the books I read - and since I discovered Librarything, I realized how many books I own that I don't know if I truly want to keep. At the library and in bookstores I sometimes find myself picking up books I've read before and didn't really care for, and this seemed like a fun way to tackle the rather daunting project of reviewing the books in my various homes - just so I know what I have, where it is, and what it's about.
Plus it takes some of the agony out of what to read next :-).

It takes me forever to choose a new book to read. I hem and haw over it for hours. My unread books fill an entire bookcase (I buy far more quickly than I can finish a book).

I had seen this group and liked the idea, and when I inherited a good portion of a friend's library before her cross country move, then grabbed a large haul found on the street (must've been a nearby used store thinning its stock) I knew I had to let someone else do the deciding for me.

I also tend to read the same genres/authors so it's nice to get a different perspective. My first selection was a book I never would've read on my own. It would have sat collecting dust for ages.

Just extra motivation to review my books - reviewing is mostly for me, since I realized I have only vague recollections of why I enjoyed certain things that I read previously and had no memory of most of the academic books I've read, but I do enjoy reviewing books that have few or no reviews posted. Hope to help other people discover something, I guess.

Me too, fanny! I always get a little thrill when I go to post a review and see that I'll be the first one.
