Even the though The Message translation is a paraphrase, it is my favorite because its up-to-date idioms bring the Bible to life for me.

Ooh, I can't stand the Message. I find it trivializes the Word for me. Example: "light and momentary troubles" being translated "small potatoes" (2 Corinthians 4:17). The Message isn't going to age well.

I grew up reading the NIV (which I like — the 1984 un-politically correct version, that is) and have been reading NASB for the past couple years. I might move to ESV eventually; it has the literal translation of the NASB with a touch more elegance in the phrasing. Our church will probably be switching from NIV to ESV soon.

I started reading the NIV back when I graduated High School, I switched back and forth between that and the NKJV for a while, I liked the way the NKJV flowed. I now switch back and forth between the NASB and ESV, the ESV translation is the one that I use most though.

I love the beauty and language of the King James Bible.

And I don't find it hard to read, not at all.
