Another Interview with George; warning, more DwD spoilers:
http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2011/10/george_rr_martin_on_his_favori.html

Includes this question: "Some of the developments in A Dance With Dragons open the possibility that some characters may be able to influence events that have already happened. Are you leaving open the possibility that the past might be malleable?"

Answer: "It's not something I care to give away. I will say that the past and the present and the future are all kind of one continuum, and there are different ways of looking at it. The past is always with us."

Did anyone pick up on that while reading? I can't think what characters might be able to influence past events, unless he might mean the weirwoods - but even then I don't see how the potential for this ability is implied.

Aha - I think the answer's provided in the comments for the article

Question in Comments on the article: Does anyone know what the "influencing the past" bit was all about in ADWD? And what's the conspiracy with the eye colors? Embarrassed to say that I've read the books twice now and didn't pick up on either...

Reply #1: Yeah, it was referring to Bran travelling through the weirwoods, seeing Lord Eddard praying, and when he called to him, saw his father respond to it.

Reply #2: The "conspiracy" with the eye color goes to the rumor being suggested that Jon Snow may have been the product of Prince Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark (Eddard's sister). Targaryen's have purple eyes. Eye color also goes to whether Aegon Targaryen is actually who he (and Jon Connington) says he is as the book indicates that his eyes appear blue, not purple.
