I just found out about this project to stop oil soaked birds from making themselves sick and of course penguins look cute in sweaters. . . I thought some here might be interested

That looks so cute, but when I did some more research, I discovered that they have more than enough already. In fact the wildlife centre in NZ says they may not be using any of them (they are using heat lamps to keep the washed birds warm, so it's a different process of cleaning), and the yarn store "Skeinz" is asking people not to start any more. They will forward the ones they have on hand to a rehabilitation centre in Australia that does use them (but doesn't have an oil spill to cope with at present).

One of the knitters on Rav suggested that if anyone just can't resist the cute, they should knit a Pasha Penguin (free Knitty pattern) to wear the sweater. :D

Yes, I was just going to come back and post that I heard they had enough. I am sure one could adapt penguin sweaters for other purposes or the knitty pattern sounds like a great option.

Still the penguins in sweaters pictures are very cute.
