Hi everyone - Just a reminder that Banned Books Week this year is fast approaching. Visit the ALA page for info: http://www.ala.org/ala/issuesadvocacy/banned/bannedbooksweek/index.cfm
It looks like they have a lot of info and resources if you are inclined to participate in some way.

Please kindly read the link provided. The description is rather detailed.
My old high school is known for two things. We created Project Graduation back in the late 70's and for a book challenge. Guess which one we're more known for?

I can't recall anything similar in the UK, though it's decades since I was involved with our Defence of Literature and the Arts Society.
(When asked about my role on the executive committee, I explained that I was there to represent the consumers.)

I'll bite: you banned a book. Let me guess which one: Harry Potter? Probably too recent. To Kill A Mockingbird?

5) I didn't ban a book. Was after I went there. I worked in the high school library. Their policy was anything questionable was kept below the counter (and later in the copier room in the back) but was provided upon request to any student who asked for it.
I believe it was Catcher in the rye but I'm seeing references to Are you there god? as well.

edit: Oh and by questionable, I mean like the "you and your body" books.
reedit: Not sure where you get that I banned any book. Heck even though I strongly dislike romance novels, I still sold them when I ran my waldenbooks and (sort of) kept up to date on the authors.

Whoops! Didn't mean you-singular but you-plural ... reacting to your use of "we" in your OP. I was wondering as I wrote whether you were there at the time and associated yourself only by being an alum.
Should have guessed Catcher in the Rye, a likely choice in retrospect.

Not a problem. I know some folks react strongly to the idea of banning books. Just wanted to clarify.
edit: Oh and we also had a Westinghouse Science winner back in 1984 as well.
