OOOH!!! More babies!!!
72wonderY
What a beautiful little Jedi knight! It's obvious he/she? has already mastered some moves. What - you think all babies are that charming?
Good work, Brightcopy.

Thanks, everyone! :)
Calvin Jay
born 7/9 at 9:26am
7 lbs 9 oz
19.5 inches
Named after his great-grandfather, with a nod to the boy in red and black. Given his genetics, there's a good chance he'll be blond, but so far my brown hair has won the current battle.
He's also quite possibly the cutest baby every (totally objective!)
So yeah, I'm pretty happy
:)

How could I have been so neglectful as to have not created an LT catalog for the little tike?? I was wasted time worrying about a college fund.

11> Just prior to that, they were the filthiest toes ever:
Still inky from the footprints. Took the picture and realized how great a shot it was and had to clean him up for a reshoot. He didn't mind too much.

Great pics. He is just too adorable!!! It's a wonder you could tear yourself away long enough to post ;)

Congratulations!!!
#1 has got to be the best newborn picture I've ever seen. Mine were all squinched up and blotchy.

Thanks again, everyone! He was actually fairly peaceful right after birth. Didn't really start being cranky baby until the second night. Still gets cranky at night. Instead, he was alert like that, looking all around and madly gesticulating with those crazy arms. His alertness was heightened by some amazing neck muscles; he can already lift his head and look left and right for short periods. He's strong as an ox in general, and nigh unswaddleable.

Very cute baby.
22brightcopy
Thanks! Of course, I 100% agree with you. Especially given his anti-smile face...
Okay, you've convinced me to post one more :D

I just saw this. Awesome pictures!
26brightcopy
Now if he'd just sleep for more than 30 minutes at a stretch. I promise, he used to do that. I can't have dreamed it because that would imply I got some sleep.
28MarthaJeanne
When our children were young we heard a report that scientists had done a study that proved that adult human beings function better if they have managed to get their sleep in longer chunks (1 x 8 hours is better than 2 x 4 hours is better than 4 x 2hours...) I think you should inform Calvin Jay that his parents will be better parents for him if he lets them get a few hours of sleep at a time now and again.
(Somehow new parents seem to understand this principle without a scientific study.)

Well, he finally did go to sleep for a few hours.
Of course, that's when both of his parents' bodies decided sleep would be a bad idea. So why be surprised that we can't convince Calvin to sleep when we can't even convince ourselves?

It's Monday. I think that calls for a happy baby picture.

As Dr. Mrs. Brightcopy will be happy to inform you - no teeth there!
There is, however, one giant cowlick.

While I can't necessarily go that far, I can say he has been quite the happy boy for the last few weeks, overall. He's smiling and outright grinning for a reason now (rather than just testing out what all the buttons and levers do upstairs).
People keep telling us, "Oh, he's three months old now. This is where you turn a corner and it starts to get so much better." Where were all you people when we were a month into this?!

Sunday is son-day:
41thejazzmonger
What a handsome lad! Bid old curious eyes. That is a good sign.
42brightcopy
I tried to tell him karate is not part of a balanced breakfast. But he never listens.
44brightcopy
He plays to win.

Close to being his birthday in 3 1/2 months... I have a question to brightcopy.... On message 10.... It has a site in the message how do you make that appear on the message?
Thanks
Thanks

#46 by BradonK> Yup. Hard to believe but it's almost here. He just keeps growing and growing.
When you say there's a site in the message, do you just mean this:
http://www.librarything.com/profile/calvinjay
?
I just typed that in. LibraryThing automatically turns things that looks like links into links. There's ways you can do it more fancy than that, but that's the simplest level.
There's also a ton of useful info here:

Yea thanks... But I mean how do you make the link? Like how did you make your own link?
I hope that Calvin will bring you peace and joy!!

"Wait wait wait wait wait wait. WAIT. Every year?"

*Big Smile* (from me, that is) No smile, but the giant blue eyes are adorable. The cowlick is still there, too, albeit smaller. And the cake and ice cream bit every year will be so cool.
56brightcopy
The kid has some mad curls whenever his hair gets wet.
57brightcopy
I told you the curls were outrageous:
59brightcopy
Well, this was actually at a condo in Key Largo, Florida (recent vacation). But yes, it was QUITE a bit of fun: removing paintings, shifting chairs in front of televisions, tying up vertical blinds, buying and installing outlet covers after he started licking them...
X)
Oh, and the curls are quite blond, with maybe a hint of strawberry under the right lighting.

From my lofty perch as Grandmother, I laugh with delight. However I do remember the hassles. You already know they are so worth it.
Sounds like he has an inquiring mind.

Not to mention tongue.

"Not to mention tongue." LOL Oh how I hate that stage. I have none of my own yet, but spent several years working with wee rascals. You've got yourself quite an adorable one there :))

It's amazing how fast babies turn into kids. He sure is concentrating on something.
The first few pictures have disappeared for me. I wanted to see that first wide-awake baby picture, but there's just a little question mark.

In the meantime, all the pics are still in Calvin's member gallery:

And yes, it IS amazing how fast. And how much your memory fades. It's like he's ALWAYS been exactly like he is right now and that other baby is like some dream I had...

Great! As I mentioned before, #1 is about the best newborn picture I've ever seen.
I saw a tiny new baby the other day, and I literally cannot remember my kids being that small. I know they were, and I have photo evidence, but I can't remember.
I think that one of the best things about parenthood is seeing your child develop into an individual with thoughts and opinions of their own. Of course, my family is entering the teen years, so I may change my mind about that.

Speaking of growing up so fast:
Of course, he's been walking since eight months and running since about nine, so that's not that big news. But I really did not expect him to tear out and run away from us at 15 months old...
As far as teenagers, I plan on mine being the most well-mannered agreeable teenager ever. As far as I can remember, I wasn't that bad myself.
What's everyone looking at me that way for??

Wow. What a wonderful boy.
70brightcopy
Thanks! That was his "holy crap, he looks way older than he should!" photo. I'm sure you have plenty of those. :D
It occurs to me I have yet to post a single photo of him reading a book, though he loves his books and wants to read them often. Gotta fix that.

Oh, and I should post an obituary for the curls, unfortunately. But he was getting pretty shaggy and his new haircuts (he's on the second already!) do look good. The unbelievable part is that he was no trouble for either of them. Of course, the kids' haircut place had lots of distractors...
72MerryMary
No babies at your house any more. What a distinguished looking little man.
It is so much fun watching him grow up.

Wish we could get Calvin and my granddaughter Hayden together. They were born about 3 months apart. This is a great picture. That secret little smile that tells you the wheels are turning...
78brightcopy
I remember when he was born, we bought thought "he's so incredibly cute!" And he was - for a newborn. He wasn't all wrinkled and didn't have an alien-head. The pediatrician even said "he looks like a c-section baby!"
But now he's about a billion times cuter and I go back and look at those newborn photos and try to place myself in the same mental state but it's hard to.
Maybe it was the sleep deprivation talking...

A little video.
The most unbelievable part of this is that though we've sang it many times to him, we've never heard him sing more than three words of it in a row.

Don't dawdle, though, as it'll disappear eventually, too. Don't have a particularly good place to host video right now so this is linking off facebook. This is just their cached version.
Gone again. I'm just going to have to find some place to host it that's not tied back to my secret identify.
