I'd like some ideas of movies set in Germany which are contemporary, and OK for kids, but not cartoons. If comedies, so much the better!

Thank you for your help.

Hi SaintSunniva,
You could check out the film adaptions of Cornelia Funke's series for girls, the films were very popular in Germany. It's called "Die wilden Hühner ...".

The latest Til Schweiger movie was a film about a father-daughter relationship (which starred his own very young daughter). The title is "Kokowääh".

I haven't actually seen these movies, so I can't tell you if they were any good. And I have no idea if they were subtitled or dubbed.

crima72, what does Die Wilden Hühner mean?
Thanks!

>3 SaintSunniva:

I'd translate that to "The Wild Chickens" but I'm not fluent. I suspect it's idiomatic, but uncertain of the connotations.

Hello Saint Sunniva,

as I do not know how old your kids are but there are actually quite a few good children movies set in Germany :) have to know as I have got a kid myself.

1. Das fliegende Klassenzimmer (for girls and boys, more of an adventure story but great)

2. Vorstadtkrokodile (same as 1)

3. Die Wilden Kerle (There are 5 movies out now, they are adventure and fun as well. For boys and girls. I thought the first 2 were pretty good but did not like the other 3 also my kid disagrees with me)

4. Emil und die Detektive (2000) great fun, both for boys and girls.

5. Pünktchen und Anton (Comedy for boys and girls)

6. KeinOhrHasen (Romantic comedy with Til Schweiger)

I know you said no cartoons and the stories should be set in Germany, but there are quite a few cartoons in German for kids which are absolutely fab.

1. Käpt'n Blaubär
2. All the movies from Janosch
3. (if you don't mind a bit of rude comedy - "Werner" movies are a great favorite for young and old and they are set in Germany as well.

Other German made Comedies are:

1. Der Schuh des Manitu (an absolute favourite with a lot of young and old)

2. (T)Raumschiff Surprise - Periode 1 (Very much loved by my kid and his friends as well)

:) :) And now I exhausted myself.

elenchus - Thank you for the translation.

drachenbraut23 - Thank you very much for all the suggestions.

And now, without Netflix, to figure out how to get some of these movies.
