Whats your favorite cup or mug to drink tea from ?

My favorite is a purple mug that has the Cheshire Cat from Alice and wonderland on it. My mom got it for me at the disney store.

I had a Ghostbusters one that I liked, but my mum broke it.
I also had one with Gonzo from the Muppets on it that I liked, but my mum broke it.
Now I drink from one that has a Kurt Vonnegut quote ("We are put on this earth to fart around. Don't let anyone tell you any different.")
Or a Tea Appreciation Society one at work, where my mum can't get at it.

I also switch between a mug with rabbits on it, a Montreal mug my aunt bought me when I was still in elementary school, and a mug with my current employer's logo on it. At work I drink out of a travel mug with my former employer's logo. I use it because it has a lid -- with normal mugs my tea got cold very quickly because my office has the AC cranked up all year round, it seems.

I always use big glass mugs. I seem to collect them and they make good tea cups.
Although I find the only way to keep them clean is with baking soda. Same thing with tea spoons.

My favourite has a painting of an old bookshop in Paris painted by Chiu Tak Hak. A beautiful bright blue store front on an old stone building with "Livres" painted in big letters over the door and "Estimations Anciens" painted on the window. Lovely.

My daily cuppa at home is a mug with Egyptian jewelry on it; at work I use a plain cobalt blue mug.

My usual mug, custom decorated, has a picture of our 'time-share' dog, a black and white labrador/spaniel cross. That way I cannot forget her when she is home with owner #1.

My favorite mug is a jadite one that I picked up at a antique shop. Tea cools quickly in it, but it is smallish so I don't mind. I also have a plain green one with crackle glaze for work that has a matching lid and strainer.

And lest anyone think that I favor monochromatic mugs, one of my absolute favorites is a bright yellow mug with small, light blue dinosaurs around the bottom. It chips very easily, though, so I mostly just look at it fondly. I have had it since I was 6 or so.

Either a leopard one from Pier 1 that has a Lion head on the handle, or the one with my company name on it!

I have a really pretty porcelain tea cup with violets on it. For coffee I use a hand thrown mug with a face on it that I named Sir George.

One of my favorite mugs has a chip in it and I haven't used it in years. I just found a pattern to make a pocketed liner that hangs on the outside of the mug. You can put pens in the mug and office or sewing supplies in the pockets. Yay! a mug with sentimental value has a new life.

My work mug is red and big, with a nice bold white pattern of vines/flowers. And a yellow handle. (And an insane amount of tannin staining on the inside, I really must take it home and scour it out!)

At home, I'm currently using my present for Mother's Day from my son: a lovely fine bone cup with botanical illustration on it of a native wildflower. And it's quite small, so I also get to make a pot of tea using something nice, instead of the awful tea bags we have at work, and just keep on refreshing my cup. (Mostly, at work, tea is a break from the computer and something to keep my fingers warm. But I really must go and buy myself some nice teabags so it can be more than that.)

I've got a mug I bought at the annual conference of the Archaeological Institute of America--ivory background with blue Minoan dolphins sporting across it. And I've also got a couple of mugs that came from Egypt, decorated with pictures of saints (St. Anthony, St. Paul of Thebes, and St. Mena) and Pope Shenouda. And last but not least, a cobalt blue glass mug celebrating the Scripps Institution of Oceanography! How could I pick a favorite?

my favourite mug/cup is an English Fine bone china "mug"; my tea stays hot for over 30 min in the mug. i picked several up very cheap at stores like Home Goods and Marshalls.

A great big mug with the BookMooch characters on it - although it's fading rather badly, despite only ever having been hand-washed ... I also have smaller mugs: a map of the London Underground; the Danish flag; a commemorative mug from Christiania, the hippy colony in Copenhagen; and one from my husband which is covered in pictures of the various cats I've been owned by!

I had my 'Open University' mug, with the nice logo and all, but the handle broke recently - I am soooo sad! This mug was the one I used for nice, thick, hot chocolate, or tea. It followed me throughout my studies, on those nights when I used to write my essays for hours... The others we have in the kitchen are just not the same!

I finally realized that a mug doesn't work for me - too large. I'm either drinking half the contents after the tea's gone tepid, or I only fill it about 1/3 full.

Then I found a small, double walled glass cup (no handle) from Bodum that's just the right size (http://www.bodum.com/us/en-us/shop/detail/4557-10US/?showsize=true). The double wall keeps the tea hot longer; the beautiful color of the various types of tea is visible; and, since there's no handle, I can feel some of the warmth of the brew on my hand when I pick it up. I just keep the pot in a cozy and readily at hand, and refill often.

These glass cups are a bit fragile, though. I've bought four, and have two left (after about 7 years).

BTW, I've seen the same cup (though in a larger size) on the recent sci-fi series "BattleStar Galactica". Admiral Adama takes his liquor in it.

At home, a large white mug that I got in magical Disney World with Disney's colorful purple dragon "Figment" painted all around it in various poses. Being a figment of the imagination, he is portayed shamelessly indulging in the creative pusuits that I wish I had more time for, including reading and writing.

At work, a snarky, fifties-style travel mug with pastel green/blue body and Pepto-Bismol pink handle, adorned by a vacantly smiling housewife and the words, "I used to care, but I take a pill for that now."

My most favorite mug ever was a nightmare before christmas one shaped like jack's head. He had his signiture scary smirk that made the contents of the mug taste better. Alas, upon moving he fell and broke I was horrified. I don't know how but elmers glue and determination helped me put the hundreds of pieces back together. Now he is a magestic pencil holder

I have a tall, soft green, hand-crafted stoneware mug that I love. It has this little curly-cue sort of thing that swirls out of the handle at the bottom of the mug. I love it. Stole it from my mom. (Okay, she gave it to me from her vast collection because she never used it.) I drink out of it everyday, all day long. In fact, I am right now.

At work, I love my ingenuiTEA infuser/glass mug system from adagio teas. The infuser part has a lid that keeps hot water from spilling over the 3 flights of stairs from my water source to my desk.

One of my favorite cups is the 'Elizabethan' style cup-and-saucer I use when I'm feeling fancy. For a breakfast tea, I love my Freddie Mercury mug. I also loved seeing people's eyes roll when I show it to them

I have a mug that it actually a tea brewer as well - one side has a dragon and the other a phoenix, and inside is the ceramic tea leaf strainer. However, I'm aiming to add one more tea cup to my collection - a cup and saucer combo. I've always wanted one just to sit on the deck and sip tea from while I read.

I had a cup just like that Chesire Cat cup! Except it was pink. An ex-boyfriend bought it for me, very sweet gift. His tail went all the way up the side of the cup. It's broken now.

My mug that I brought home from Slovenia. (European country between Italy and Austria) It is a heavyweighted flat bottomed mug, with a leaf and the cursive word Slovenija painted on it. I think its original purpose was a beer mug, but makes a much better hot beverage mug. I have had it for 15 years and it has seen a lot of use. Thanks for asking. Oh my favorite coffee mug is a black tall latte mug with "Scarey Before Coffee" printed in white.

I have a herbal Tea mug, thats bone china with a william morris orange tree design. My daily cuppa is Panned (welsh brew) which is the best Tea in the world, plus its Welsh blended, for this i have a china mug with my 2 favourite things a yellow lab sitting in a library!

When I travel, I pick up a mug as a souvenir from wherever I go. :) They're all perfect for a nice hot cup of tea! Problem is...I've got to many choices!

I started drinking tea in a glass Irish coffee mug about 6 years ago and never have used anything else since. The tea stays hot longer (because of the narrowness of the glass) and it's just the right size for 6-8oz of PG tips or Twinings Earl Grey...my two usual teas.

I do the same thing. everywhere I go I get a mug and use it for tea or coffee .

The best souvenirs are tea things!!! I even bought a teapot in Peru when I went. Couldn't bring home the coca tea, oh well.

I do not usena cup or mug. I use a small 5 sided glass or a 5 sided large glass. I picked up the idea at a cafe inNewOrleansyears ago. In a glass you can enjoy the beautiful color of the liquid. More sensesenjoying the tea.

My nearest and dearest mug was a custom-screened Tea Club mug; first gift my son ever bought me with his own funds. Little inconvenience in the form of last May's F5 tornado robbed it of its handle, but I'm keeping it anyway.

I have a small cache of Tervis Tumblers for work; as klutzy as I am, they are wonderful--spillproof and sweatproof.

For some reason, I can’t use a usual cup. I discovered this my peculiarity years ago, at table, when I felt a discomfort holding the handle of a usual tea cup. Thinking over it, I realized that I felt like smashing the cup on the wall, solely in virtue of its usual traditional shape. I always had nice drinking bowls in my household, and I thought, why not to leave the tea cups and mugs for ever and not to use drinking bowls for having tea? Since then, I have my favorite green tea and herbals teas using either a drinking bowl or a thick glass. For having coffee I use only thick glasses. Look at a picture of a drinking bowl… It looks more ancient than a traditional tea cup or mug, doesn’t it? Or rather it’s a traditional cup, and our tea cups are a newer invention.

Years ago I stopped in at a famous restaurant in New Orleans and had coffee after the meal. IT came in an old fashioned glass. I still drink my coffee and my tea from an old fashioned glass or a mall juice glass, or a glass mug (last choice). I love being able to see the color of the differening teas or the strengfth of the coffee.

Taking the time and trouble to maximize the pleasure from the look, feel, and smell when taking tea is much the same for folks who go to the trouble and expense of reading hardcopy books instead of e-books. Yes, a quick cuppa made with whatever teabag is handy and served in a cardboard cup has its place, as does an e-book. But, for reading a book and for taking tea, I prefer, whenever I can, to maximize the full, mulit-sensory experience.

I agree. Though I do have an e-reader, I only read from it when I'm out. At home, and wherever else it's possible I have my tree-made books, hardcover if available, and cup-and-saucer tea that danced around in a pot first. Some hearty breakfast teas are good in a mug, but even then I try to get a good mug. This way I get my nose working overtime!

#57...my son has been adding to my mug collection for gift-giving occasions, so I've been enjoying that one since Christmas. (On mine, it appears in space on the other side.)

I drink my morning tea (typically mint blend) from a tall floral patterned mug with a chip in the handle.
My afternoon tea and dinner tea (either black or green) I am not particular about. . .
But my night time tea (chamomile) is always from a short deep purple mug with a strange square handle.

I just ordered this TARDIS mug for my son's birthday. He's both a tea drinker and a Dr Who fan. I doubt it's practical for regular tea drinking, though.

Oh, cool.  I don't remember seeing that, so I'll have to watch the show, again.

I like/use Cath Kidston's mugs. They're huge. I like sipping from huge cups even though I never fill my mugs. I'm quite picky with the thickness of glass, smoothness of handle and type of printing so it's difficult to specify what I use but Cath Kidston's mugs work for me.

I really like the insulation in these bodum glasses, so I don't need to worry about burning my hands. Burning my tongue, however, is another problem.

I prefer drinking tea from a finer mug or glass, rather than a thicker sided one. At work I use a bone-china mug with flowers from my homeland. At home I use a fine, plain white mug. However, for some green teas, I like to use a glass, or a small glass Chinese tea cup. This allows for the visual enjoyment of the tea as well as the taste sensation and adds to the moment.

Yes, Rozax, I agree. When you can see the light shining through the tea in a glass, you can understand why the Chinese call black tea "red" tea (hong cha).

My favorite teacup is my radioactive yellow, "Dr. Science" mug that I got for sending a $30 donation to National Public Radio back in 1988, when I was still foolish enough to do such things. Even back then, I didn't like NPR. But I DID get a kick out of "Dr. Science," whose 30-second spot used to run every day on "Morning Edition".

I used to love to sit across the table from my mother and my older sister. While we drank tea, they got to look at the big, black, "I know more than you do" logo every time I raised my big, yellow cup.

I just realized I cant stand drinking tea in a clear glass especially if it's a big mug size. I always feel like it's going to break. It has to be a thick mug but not too thick cuz I hate those too.

Sorry 75 and 76 but I love my red, mugsized, glass. It doesn't have any handles. Makes my feel exotic and dainty.

I have loads of mugs that I love, but my current favorite has a rubber bottom so that you can put it anywhere without a coaster! I also have a vintage happy face mug that I've had some version of in my life since I was a baby. My mom had the original one (that she bought some time in the '70s), and I loved that mug so much, that when she broke it while I was away at college, she called me up to tell me! I was so distraught that I found two more on eBay--one's at my parents' house and one's in my apartment so I always have one to drink out of.

I love drinking tea from my large wide mug... it is light tan with brown strips. It holds a lot and still keeps the tea warm. Just great for drinking tea on a cold winter's afternoon while reading a good mystery.

I will be going to the Renaissance Festival and hopefully getting a new favorite mug.

My favorite is a basic mug I got from the thrift store for 50cents. It's hand-painted, and I looked at it closer recently and think the cermic may have been done by hand too. It's decorated with birdhouses and a little bird.

About 10ish years ago I had an X-Files mug. My dad broke the handle off it. I mourned.

In 2008 I had a mug that I bought in Geneva, randomly, in the United Nations HQ gift shop. It was shiny and blue and gold. My dad broke the handle off it.

Now I have a white one with a cow on it and the poignant French caption "...la vache qui regarde passer les trains..." but the English says "watching the time go by" or something.

I'm still really on the hunt for my one true mug-love.

I found this mug at the DollarTree. It's a beautiful sky blue color that I really love. But it's rather small, so when I want a bit more tea, I use this mug my husband got me at a thrift store. It's a thick, white stoneware mug with a sketch of Albert Einstein on it. I'd love to have a Kurt Vonnegut mug.

My absolute favorite mug is larger than a cereal bowl and is used for hot comfort foods like stew, soup, and rice and beans. It's white and has Easter eggs on it. My mom gave it to me via care package when I was in school.

I've also got this friendly-looking, rounded, sage green teapot that I never get to use. Nobody I know drinks hot tea except for me, so its a bit impractical, unfortunately. Somebody come have a cup with me? Bring your drinking bowls, please, I love the idea of that.

Hi! New here. I love mugs. I alternate between four favourites:

-- a giant red M&M mug my husband brought me back from M&M World (he was on a business trip), which says "Wanna piece of me?" inside
-- a white oversized teacup-shaped mug with a pattern of pink raspberries on it which I bought for myself
-- a striped multicoloured mug (a bit like a striped sock only a mug) with the names of different kinds of tea on the stripes, a gift from my sister-in-law
-- and my newest mug, a burnt-orange Le Creuset mug from my brother this Christmas

I had a few favourite mugs over time and most have gone away. The longest running is an old china mug of my mother's that's yellow glazed on the inside and covered with little airdale terriers on the outside. I keep it at my sister's house for when I visit because she never has enough mugs around for tea. I've also got a big black guy with "meh" on the side in white letters. I have a matching t-shirt as well. ;).

I tend to like heavier or thick walled mugs as I tend to rest my mug on my lips a little when I drink and thin ones always feel like they're about to break.

I have this new little Starbucks guy I got that's something between a small coffee mug or a thick tea-cup. I tend to only use it when I make a pot because it's too small for bags.

I dropped and broke my adored absolutely-favourite cup a while ago and have yet to gather courage to try to glue it back together (I bought the type of superglue with two tubes that have to be mixed just so...)

Meanwhile I've been making do with the Disappearing Tardis mug I won in a Xmas raffle years ago.

Another railway themed tea mug. This one was part of a safety campaign by the former South African national railway company, Spoornet. On one side is the logo, on the other a selection of safety messages in some of the country's eleven official languages. I don't use this mug too often now as it has a lot of chips and hairline cracks, but it's still an old favourite.

My favorite breakfast cup is a pretty little covered cup by Ganz. It keeps the tea warm if I linger over a book.

I bought this Anne Taintor one as my work mug after I passed the bar exam while in a non-legal job.

I have one with a "word cloud" from a one-day meeting. Each participant got a personal mug based on name and interests. And it was a good size for a cup of tea, so that's still in frequent use.

I have too many big mugs. Our cupboard is overflowing right now so we need to cut back. I've picked up a couple shelves to display the nice looking ones. Now I need to find some means of having my larger mugs out. My recent one is still my big black "meh" mug but also my cat dangling in a tree mug, sort of a "hanging around" image.
