Hi! I'm not a teen, but I was writing back when I was (and still writing today). There were times when it was beyond frustrating, cause I had no support in my writings, my family blew it off as a faze and discouraged me from "my foolishness" every chance they could get. As you can see I did not give in to them, and I am glad that I stood my ground and worked at my dreams.

Good luck to everyone here who's just starting out!

Hello! Nice to meet you! I say you count for this group, even if you've passed the age limit. :). Congrads on resisting your family. Mine's actually pretty good about this, though my dad worries. ("You can't make money writing! You'll end up living in a box!").

Hello. I'm fourteen and am an aspiring writer. My family has always liked the idea of my being a writer and they have all encouraged me, especially my brother who reads what I've written, and has a lot of constructive criticism. He punches holes in all of my plots, forcing me to re-work my ideas, and iron out the flaws and cliches. Useful but frustrating.

ello! i'm 16 and i wish i had a relationship like that with my family. they've never been supportive of my dreams of becoming a writer....i guess that's why i have no confidence in what i write. my friends don't help much either, because they aren't patient enough to read everything! lol

Hey I'm 14 and most of my friends are supportive just not my family. My Younger sister is the only one. SHe just loves the little stories I write for her. my friends give me really good things to work with or they will give me ideas which I will change to make my own because they say they won't be able to put the words together like I do

Well hope to talk to y'all soon!

remember that when families aren't supportive it's probably just because they care about you and worry about you trying to make a living off something as unsubstantial as writing. But when it comes down to it, you're only going to be happy if you do what you love to do and your family will probably become resigned to being happy that you are happy. DON'T GIVE UP!!!

I'm 13 and well writing is "write" up my alley! My family actually has no idea (excluding my younger sister) because I write before bed and I think they think I am writing in my diary or do not notice at all (both my mom and dad notice NOTHING which is really funny because I do right in front of them and I am not even trying to be secretive). :P)

He hasn't met my uncle then. My uncle is very well off and he writes poetry and makes them into books.

Then find the friends that will. :) I have tons of friends. Those who read and those who don't. You can make it work.
