which do you prefer, manga or anime?
Personally I prefer manga. Some anime series just seem to drag on for way to long. I don't have the time to watch that much TV.

I like both, but I guess I prefer manga because I'd rather read than anything else. But every once in a while, it is so nice to completely shut my brain off and watch an anime.

For me it isn't really a straight one or the other preference. There are so many things that are only anime or only manga which I would miss out on if I focused solely on one or the other.
Manga tends to be more portable than anime, and it's easier to grab a few minutes of time here and there to read through a volume of manga than it is to find time for an episode or two of anime. I find action-heavy series to be generally easier to follow in anime form, simply because the motion is actually there, rather than just being implied through a series of static images.

I prefer manga, I guess, because I've always liked reading more than watching TV? Well, it also depends on the mood I'm in, like I'm mostly in the mood to read manga but every once in a while I get into anime mode and just watch and watch. I guess reading manga is less tiring, though. Also, it's cheaper and easier to obtain (for me, anyways). I like to read a manga series and then watch the anime when I'm finished to see it come to life, so that's always fun. Sometimes I just love to stare at my collection of manga, and just doing that makes me happy.
Well, so yeah, I prefer manga. But anime's awesome, too.

I like manga more as well, because I just like reading very much! However, I also like anime because then you have the characters animated with voices and music! And there are also nice anime which doesn't have a manga series.
A few times I liked the manga very much, but couldn't find the anime. However, I was able to find the soundtrack CDs so I had manga with soundtrack :D

I like both, but I have more manga than anime. I agree that some series do get too drawn out but then there are some really great one that I wish would go one longer. Ouran High School Host Club is one of my favorites, both manga and anime!

I've only watched the anime for Ouran High School Host Club, since it's not too long. It was really good :)

i prefer manga, usually... like how i prefer books to movies... (ie, karekano, skip beat, hanakimi, etc)
although, if the manga was created based on the anime (or the book/manga based on the movie), then i would usually say that i prefer the anime (or movie). (ie, trigun, escaflowne)
in essence, the first version of the story to come out.
some exceptions:
whispers of the heart (manga came first; i prefer the anime.. it was also mostly loosely adapted from the manga)
ouran high school host club (manga came first; i prefer the anime)
ima, ai ni yukimasu (the novel came first, then the live action movie, then the two versions of the manga and the live action tv series; i prefer the live action tv series)

I agree with #9 for the most part.
Every so often, though, I'll like the version that is longer. For instance, I love Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne by Tanemura Arina, but when I recommend it to people, I say to watch the first season of the anime before reading the manga. I like that the anime takes a longer time to build up the romantic tensions and the character bits which I feel happen too fast to be fully enjoyable in the manga because it's only 7 volumes in its entirety. (Avoid the 2nd season of the anime, though - it's horrendous and doesn't make ANY SENSE AT ALL, just... ARRRGH!)

that makes sense, but I don't know my manga/anime enough to know which one comes first.
Can you guys think of any popular series where the manga is based on the anime, unlike most which is the other way around?

I THINK, but am not sure, that Kyo Kara Maoh was an anime first and then later adapted into a manga.

Of the Sakura Taisen (Sakura Wars) series, first there were games and then anime and THEN manga.

I like both as long as their good...and translated well. I might lean a little toward anime just because it takes less effort; reading makes me tired. ;-p

I just read two Wolf's Rain volumes, which was an anime first and then the manga was made: http://moonplanet.dreamwidth.org/tag/manga+review
