I'm pretty positive both Sutpen & pyrocow & perhaps others here have been all over this book since its release last year and spoken of it elsewhere, but I just grabbed it yesterday at a Borders going out of business sale for a paltry $2.99, and was up till 3:30 last night devouring it.

It's the most fascinating, revealing interview with DFW I've ever read. David Lipsky got the dream assignment of spending literally five complete days with Wallace, 24-7, on the last leg of his March '96 book tour for Infinite Jest, and he had his tape recorder rolling nonstop.

As time permits, I'd like to post excerpts & observations and welcome those of yours too familiar with the book. I'd like to also, eventually, itemize each "cultural product mentioned" in the book -- it's the title of what serves as a sort of appendix to the book -- as that section alone is worth the price of admission, imo.

For starters, here's an awesome early quote from the book: It's DFW on watching lots of television waiting for an airplane:

It was "an orgy of spectation".

touchstone for the book: Although of Course You End Up Becoming Yourself: A Road Trip with David Foster Wallace.

I wonder, what would he call your (near) all-nighter?

I haven't read this one, but I'm looking forward to your further posts on it, EF.
