This is one of the more minor awards. I don't think there is money awarded- just recognition. I like seeing the book they pick each year. This year it went to The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating by Elizabeth Tova Bailey.

A book of essays by a 'grumpy old man' (author's words) is this year's winner. Sex and the River Styx, Edward Hoagland

This is an award for natural history writing. The first award was presented in 1926.

<1 I read The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating last year while I was recovering from back surgery. It was a well deserved award. I recommend it to every one who is ailing or just in need of a mental slow down.
