I just bought this new book today and the bits and pieces I've poked into so far are fascinating. Obviously it's meant for the non-specialist, but if you're a visitor from other areas, it may help you "see" this unfamiliar landscape. It focuses on the state parks, but is not limited to them. In full, it's Exploring the Geology of the Carolinas: A Field Guide to Favorite Places from Chimney Rock to Charleston. Also, I bought this at Crowders Mountain State Park rather than at a bookstore and was told that a little bit of the money will go into the general parks fund. I'm sure our parks can use even that small amount. (I've also posted this to the North Carolina Group; apologies if it's a duplicate for you.)
