I am looking for an authoritative history on the Army of Northern Virginia's move (withdrawal, retreat, whatever) back to Virginia after Gettysburg--the more detail, the better. Any recommendations?

Retreat from Gettysburg: Lee, Logistics, and the Pennsylvania Campaign (Civil War America) is pretty good. Also One Continuous Fight is supposed to be good as well, although I haven't read it yet.

Newly out in paperback, the well written One Continuous Fight focuses on the cavalry clashes, that is the forces under Stuart and Imboden against Buford and Kilpatrick.
In the third volume in the must have Civil War bible Battles and Leaders, you will find an article written by Imboden himself. In Gangrene and Glory, I found the tragic note that most of the US doctors had to rejoin the pursuing army (in expectation of a battle that never came), leaving the suffering wounded around Gettysburg behind with inadequate medical care.
Retreat from Gettysburg, which I have yet to read, will be out in paperback too, come July.
