Just happened across this challenge and thought I would accept the challenge (my son is a 'gamer' and that is how he speaks). Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet. I enjoyed this book very much, partially because of the different perspective of the protagonist. I've read many books about the internment of Japanese during WWII but none from the viewpoint of a Chinese-American. I'm a sucker for a happy ending, so I was very pleased with the ending.

Eve Green A very tender story of Eve over-coming so much in her young life - the death of her mother and only parent, the move from urban Wales to rural Wales to live with her grandparents and where her father can never be mentioned, the making of unusual friendships and the disappearance of a classmate. Despite all, Eve manages to create a comfortable, pleasant life.

Book of Unholy Mischief. Some of my favorites topics - historical fiction, Venice, food. A fairly light-hearted story of the Guardians who protect the knowledge of mankind by disguising it as recipes. Clever.

House Rules. This is my second "H" book. Guess I'm not too good at following the rules, but I'd read both of the "H" books before I accepted the challenge and thats my excuse.

I enjoyed reading about two topics I hadn't read much about - Aspergers and criminal forensics. I just hope that Picoult didn't take as much literary license with them as she did with the legal proceedings.

The Doomsday Book by Connie Willis. Discovered this book when a fellow Coloradoan told me about Connie Willis, a Colorado author. She is a well-known SciFi/Fantasy writer. Time travel to 1348 England and the devastation of the blue sickness (i.e. Black Plague). I'm glad I found this author and read this book.

Good luck with the challenge.

The Creation of Eve by Lynn Cullen. Sofonisba Anguissola was one of the few women painters of the Renaissance. She and her work have become more prominent in the last few decades. This historical fiction is of her time as a court painter and lady-in-waiting to Queen Isabella (Elizabeth of Valoise), third bride of King Felipe II of Spain.

I see you have some interesting books so far from the Renaissance period that have caught my eye. Good luck with the challenge!

I very much enjoy the Renaissance period and fortunately there are many wonderful books about that period.

I am finding the alphabet challenge more difficult than I anticipated. I tend to just grab a book from my pile of books to read and discover that I've already got that letter covered. Shouldn't complain as it just means more reading.

There were quite a few of us that had both author and book title lists running consecutively.

Queen of Subtelties: A Novel of Anne Boleyn by Suzannah Dunn. Very disappointing book. Story alternates between Anne Boleyn's letter to her daughter on the eve of her execution and Lucy Cornwallis, the confectioner of the court.

The Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. Another disappointing read. Think I expected more historical fiction and less romance. Claire and Jamie are a fun couple and I hope they enjoy their adventures but I won't be joining them.

Just finished Immortal by Traci L. Slatton. I really liked this story of Luca who lived for over 180 years and his time in Florence when the Medici's ruled. Luca spends his years searching for his family, for answers to his immortality, for beauty, for god and for true love.

I', hoping to read Hotel on the Corner and Bitter and Sweet and The Outlander this year as well. You have some good choices for books on your list!

Thanks. I've enjoyed most of my choices. I suggest you put Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet near the top of your to read list. It was excellent. As for The Outlander, well I wish someone had warned me it was more of a swashbuckling, romance than an historical fiction.

Got my "M" book finished - Moloka'i by Alan Brennert. This is an excellent book - the life story of Rachel Kalama, who at the age of 7 is diagnosed with Hansen's disease and quarantined on Moloka'i at the "leper's colony." This is a story of survival and triumph.

Killing Floor: A Jack Reacher Novel by Lee Child. This was my first Jack Reacher novel. I enjoyed it. Will read more of them.

Tears of Autumn by Charles McCarry is a wonderful, intellectual spy/thriller novel. Hero/spy Paul Christopher travels the world to discover the facts that back his theory of who had John Kennedy assassinated.
