This is the Pride and Prejudice NON-SPOILER thread. We're officially starting the group read on March 15th. As with S&S, we have a good 6 weeks for those who want to take their time.

To discuss the book in detail, here's the spoiler thread.

Austenathon Main Thread. All Austenathon threads can also be found on the 75ers wiki page.

I've already begun reading it. I'm trying to use it in TIOLI for March so I'm hoping to be done with my re-read by the end of the month.

I'm also hoping to finish this by the end of the month, because of another group read coming up in April. However you decide to divide it up is fine with me though.

Same here; I've also entered P&P in TIOLI for March. I'll wait a day or two more to see what others think about it and then go ahead and create the spoiler thread.

I read P&P in December, so won't be rereading, but it's fresh enough in my mind that I plan to participate. I think one spoiler thread is more than enough. If we divide it up, then conversation will be too scattered. Besides, are there really any spoilers for someone reading P&P? It's such an ingrained part of our culture. I certainly knew what was going to happen, and it didn't detract from my reading at all. So please don't break up the conversation more than is absolutely necessary.

Good point. I'll see what others have to say about it. I'm all for keeping things simple.

I agree with Nickelini - P&P is so much a part of the collective consciousness that most people know the general story line. I just want to keep track of one thread, personally.

This is my first read of P&P and really my first time delving into the story. I know many people know the story, but I really don't and so I think I will just stay away from the spoiler thread until I'm done with the book.

I expect to read the book all at once and would prefer a single thread.

I also have a couple of DVD's of it. I hope to watch them sooner rather than later lest I end up as I am with my Sense and Sensibility DVD's -- so far unwatched.

I reread this late last year so won't re-read again so soon but will be watching the thread with interest. Am currently reading a frustrating retelling of P&P from Darcy's point of view by Pamela Aidan. Not the best but it is light fluffy reading that I need at the moment. I did do a mini 6hr marathon of the BBC's P&P adaption last night starring Colin Firth. I just adore that series and it is so satisfyingly faithful to the novel.

oh, and I agree that one spoiler thread would be more than enough.

Isn't it great?! I've watched it several times, and I still love it. Top-notch acting all around.

p.s. I won't be rereading P and P, but I'm really looking forward to following along with you all.

I hope to join as well. This is turning out to be a month of Jane -- I'm reading Jane Eyre right now, and will move on to Jane Austen when I've finished. Thanks for setting up the thread!

Is anybody discussing Jane Eyre anywhere? I might pick it up sooner if someone were talking it over.

>16 Mr.Durick: I'm not sure about a discussion of Jane Eyre -- I haven't seen one. I am slowly trying to read classics I have somehow missed, and though this one's been on the shelf for awhile, I finally picked it up now because the movie is coming out. Tomorrow, actually, I think (US), and I always want to read the book first.

I'm happy to talk it over with you if you want to give it a go:)

Thank you, but I usually don't have much to say except occasionally to bounce off someone who does. I like to see what other readers fresh from it have to say. I don't see the movie in tomorrow's listings for my area, although I have seen the preview in local theaters.

Robert, we did have a group read of Jane Eyre last year--you can find the thread at http://www.librarything.com/topic/103340

Robert, I'm interesting in re-reading Jane Eyre soon since I'd like to see the movie, but want to have the novel fresh in my mind first. Perhaps we could start a group read for April so we can get at least a few more people together, if you're willing to wait that long to start the discussions anew.

I'm ready when anybody else is, and April is fine. Thanks for the suggestion.

I would also like to re-read Jane Eyre before seeing the new film, and would be interested in a group read.

Jane Eyre has been in my tentative reading plans for this year and I also would like to join in a group read.

Ilana, I have a copy of Jane Eyre that I've never read so I'd be interested in the April GR too.

No problem, what so ever. Join us over at the spoiler thread when you're ready. And come let us know if you really didn't know the story after all. Have you ever seen Bridget Jones's Diary?

Also, keep in mind that reading Jane Austen, in the end, it's really the journey that matters.

I just saw Bridget Jones Diary a couple of days ago on tv. I just love that movie.

I'm staying away from the spoiler thread right now too. I have a really bad memory for certain things, which funnily enough serves me well sometimes because when I want to re-read a classic, it's always new again for me! I'll be starting on P&P in a few days when I've gotten a couple of other books finished.

I'm glad to see so much interest in Jane Eyre. I'm sure the movie will prompt a lot of people to go back to that classic, and it's always widely read anyway. I'll happily set up the thread for that and will do so within a few days. I'll of course post the link here as well as on the wiki when it's up and running.

Bridget Jones the movie was... just ok to me. The book was an absolute discovery when it came out. Mostly because I felt like someone had published my own diaries, if I had been a gal living in London, maybe. But I'm sure lots of people felt that way.

Although I re-read P&P again late last year, it was the annotated version; so I'm going to start another re-read - can never have too much of a good thing! and join the discussion.

#28 - Nope, never seen Bridget Jones's Diary. When we were dating in Costa Rica my wife and I kept trying to watch it but it was raining so hard and we couldn't hear the movie over the rain on the tin roof! I'm almost done with the book though so I'll be over on the spoiler thread soon enough.

For those interested, I've set up a thread for a Jane Eyre group read in April: http://www.librarything.com/topic/111969. You'll also find it on the wiki.

I don't think this is a spoiler :

I quite like the way Mrs Bennet is portrayed in 'Lost in Austen'. It's not completely true to her character in P&P, but does address her motivations, which get overlooked in the other screen versions.

I've started my re-read--it is like a visit with a favorite friend. Jane is getting ready to return home after her cold, and Mr. Darcy is musing on expressive eyes. Where is everyone else?

36Smiler69
Mar 20, 2011, 8:27 pm

I've just finished the chapter with Darcy's letter to Lizzie where she's berating herself for all her misplaced prejudices. I must say that it gave me much pause and made me consider who in my life I might have dismissed for all the wrong reasons. It took a while, but I'm finally hooked into P&P!
