Netflix envy

Not really a bump-in-the-night topic other than if I had access to Netflix I'd use it to watch copious amounts of horror. Anyone in the UK found a service like this? I don't want DVDs through my postbox, I want to watch things instantly rather than relying on Royal Mail or having to drive to Blockbuster (a 10 mile round trip)

Couldn't you just create a Netflix account? You could use a phony-baloney US address, set up an account and watch streaming movies on your computer (I plug an HDMI cable into my laptop and into the TV and then watch the movies on the big whopper TV my wife insisted on).

I'm not an expert on how these things work, so am not positive it would work.

Not sure about Netflix, but most of those sites have the ability to check your location - roughly at least - based on your IP address.

Just checked LoveFilm.com and see they are advertising streaming films. Don't care about games or TV so it looks like the package is £9.99/month. Any UK user had any experience of this? It's quite a heft at the moment on top of the useless government freezing wages and Fagin's Sky(high) prices. Is it worth it?

Netflix has an enormous list of 'watch on demand' titles where you can just watch movies from your computer. I had an old computer that I hooked up to my TV, and now I can stream movies directly to the TV. Also, Netflix has a terrific iPad app that allows you to watch streamable movies on your iPad.

Unfortunately, the Netflix service is not available if you are living outside the US. It is the same deal with the - in my opinion - absolute best internet radio/music service: Pandora. You just have to forget it if you are not living in the US. Guess it is a license issue...

Yeah, Netflix is AWESOME. I'm just worried that they will move more and more to streaming rather than DVDs.

They are, and it worried me too at first. But then I got an AppleTV, and now I'm glad of all the streaming content.

I have limited experience with Apple. Mainly my iPod and therefore iTunes. That experience has been enough to keep me away from any other Apple products.

I do hook up the laptop to the TV and watch streaming content. I'm glad it is there. But I hope the DVDs stick around for a long time.
