Tis the season for the best of 2010. Here are my 10+ best reads for the year. Not all of these are "gay" books and a couple of them are older. I just didn't get to them before this year.

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot

Secret Historian: The Life and Times of Samuel Steward, Professor, Tattoo Artist, and Sexual Renegade by Justin Spring
...
Let the Great World Spin: A Novel by Colum McCann

Zeitoun by Dave Eggers

The Help by Kathryn Stockett

Nemesis by Philip Roth

Tales from the Town of Widows: A Novel by James Canon

Gay bar : the fabulous, true story of a daring woman and her boys in the 1950s by Will Fellows

In the City of Shy Hunters by Tom Spanbauer

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest by Stieg Larsson (You have to think of these as one big book)

I've read a couple of these (Spanbauer and Stockett) and also found them compelling and enjoyable. Some of the others are on my list to be read. Thanks for sharing. My list of best reads in the past year would include Stockett and a mix of other gay and non-gay (or not-so-gay) books, e.g., Exploding the myths of modern architecture by Malcolm Millais, The elegance of the hedgehog by Muriel Barbery, Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel. I did read some gay stuff too!!
