Merry Christmas, Everyone!!

I think that I'm fairly safe in saying that all of us will be getting books for Christmas this year... although some will get gift cards for choosing our own books.

So, this is a chance to share what books we 'got' for Christmas from others and what books we 'got' for ourselves, too!!

----------
I'm getting books from SantaThing!! YAY!! and that package hasn't arrived yet... and that will be very nice when it does!

but a friend & I celebrated the holiday a little early & I got Pegasus by Robin McKinley!! I'm Very Happy that I got that!!

**quietly shouting**
Happy Christmas, Everyone!!!

I also did SantaThing and am waiting impatiently :) I haven't really gotten anything for myself because we have a rule about buying stuff for yourself after Halloween (as in, you can't). Just a few random Bookmooch finds that are not wishlisted.

Due to having to work with everyone's schedules, I did exchange presents with some friends yesterday and was very pleased to receive Dragon in Chains and Jade Man's Skin by Daniel Fox (Chaz Brenchley)! I can't wait to read them! The bf received The Art of George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire because that's his favorite series.

I also received Shatterglass and Interworld from one of my Bookmooch buddies.

So it's been great so far this season!

I usually don't open presents until dawn on Dec. 25, but my daughter is a newlywed and is spending that day with her inlaws halfway across the U.S. We celebrated on Dec. 19 by opening their gifts and one extra -- just happened to be the one that came in a package marked "Media Mail." Inside were National Lampoon Tenth Anniversary Anthology 1970-1980 and National Lampoon 1964 High School Yearbook. DD and her husband were nonplussed by the coarseness of the humor! (DS and I are big George Carlin fans, so we howled.)

Merry Christmas! I'm a teacher and this year I put up a "booklist" outside my classroom door. I even told students/parents I don't mind used books at all, that in fact I prefer to recycle/repurpose. I received the yearly apple ornaments and homemade cookies and candy (love that!) and as far as books: Undaunted Courage, Decision Points (that one is new!), The Memory Keepers Daughter, and a year's subscription to Taste of Home Magazine (they know I like to cook and 3 families went together and got me this!).

May your family have a blessed Christmas.

So far, I haven't got any books, however, I haven't opened any presents from the person in charge of that particular list yet :)

My friends have been loving me tho- I have over $150 of gift cards to Chapters so far, as well as a "come with me to the UBS and pick out any 5 books" day. That will have to happen next week sometime, before she heads back to the states.

And my friend who I bought Sandman Slim and the gift membership for? Loved it! We're going to take my cue cat and enter his books sometime after Christmas.

Happy Holidays, Everyone!

I'm patiently awaiting my Santa Thing box! I have no idea what will be in that and I cannot wait! :-)

Yesterday I bought myself a book. Normally I'm like #2 macsbrains and don't but myself things after Halloween. And I certainly never buy myself anything three days before Christmas! But somebody over the the 75 Book Challenge group was SO exuberantly praising The Beekeepers Apprentice that I bought it - for myself!

I got The Shipping News from a book moocher yesterday - almost new condition, may as well be a Christmas present, right?

And I asked for Barnes & Noble gift cards from the people in my family who do the gift card thing. It is going to be fun!

Happy Holidays everyone!

Waiting my Santathing books :) Other from that - no books for me besides the ones I am buying myself... I suspect I will call one of the books I bought in the last days my Christmas present :)

I've got an Amazon gift card burning a hole in my proverbial pocket, but I'm trying really hard to wait until after Christmas, since I have a lengthy wishlist and more than a few relatives and friends who know about it. It's getting harder and harder to wait, though...

I've done a couple of other Secret Santas (aside from Santathing which I've also done) and received The Conqueror, Beautiful Creatures and Full Dark House from them. I also have a Chapters gift card but I'm saving it - but for what I don't know!

I got Holidays on Ice from someone in my book club at work, but sadly I already own it. Oh well.

I did buy four books today at Hastings when I realized they sold used books. (Clearly it's been a while since I've been to a Hastings.) I bought The Shipping News, The Book of Salt, A Patchwork Planet, and The Last Days of Dogtown.

I doubt I will get books (other than Santa Thing) or gift cards, but I have no problem going and picking out my own book-presents! :O)

I also got a B&N gift card. Now the bad part is trying to pick out which books I really really want to spend it on.

I almost never get books for Christmas, alas. But this year a friend took a leap and sent me Bound for Evil, which is this massive collection of gothic and horror stories about evil books and manuscripts by a boutique publisher called Dead Letter Press which only does limited print runs of hardcover, leatherbound books.

And it is an amazing collection of stories, almost 800 pages and never a repeat author.

I actually bought myself some bookcases for Christmas - not delivered yet but that's the idea :)

I did very well this year. I took part in LT's Secret Santa and the Virago Group's as well. My daughter bought me a lovely selection of new books and some second hand Viragos and my sister-in-law had also been to her local Oxfam bookshop and gave me 3 new (secondhand) Viragos so I have a total of 15 books to add to my LT catalogue. My Christmas gift money is going towards an e-book reader, probably a Kindle, so I shall be trawling Project Gutenberg and other similar sites - as if I didn't have enough on my TBR pile!

>18 southernbooklady: Wow, that book sounds fun! Evil books are the stuff of nightmares, but that's what makes it great!

I was doing so well - no book purchases for two months (well, none for ME, although I buy some kids books for Christmas presents), although I think my library card is smoking. But yesterday I received a belated Christmas gift card to B&N. Oh happy day! Now the debate - get some that look good now that are out, or pre-purchase and wait....
