Jodi Picoult

Jodi Picoult seems to be the most popular author(ess) so far in our discussions, and I know there's a lot to say about her work. Who wants to start off?

I just started reading Jodi Picoult's books and become totally engrossed while reading them. I love how she chooses serious subject that can make you think. I picked up Nineteen Minutes a few times and it looks intresting but have yet to buy. If anyone has any opinions on this book it would be greatly appreciated.

Retrogirl - She is very good at wrapping a compelling, human story around serious issues. I'm happy she's gotten so popular.

As for Nineteen Minutes, it's good, but not her best. If you haven't read My Sister's Keeper or Keeping Faith yet, I would start with those.

My Sister's Keeper was my first, which led me to pick up her others. So far I think The Pact has been my favourite. Plain Truth is definitely a good one too.

Although I do still read her, I'm getting frustrated with the formula now, and I feel like the quiality of the story is being sacrificed in favour of this pattern.

I was particularly annoyed by Perfect Match, as I felt it was jumping on a bandwagon of a particuar stereo-type (won;t go into detail as I don't want to spoil!). However, on reading the interview with the author which followed in my copy, it may be that the subject she covers in that book does not come under the same scrutiny in the States as it does in the UK... Correct me if I'm wrong...!

I'm over 30, but hope you will indulge me. I, too, am a Jodi Picoult fan and started with My Sister's Keeper. My book club is reading Nineteen Minutes and I have a question: Who do you think are holding hands on the cover?

I haven't read any of Picoult's books as of yet, but because of all the talk about Nineteen Minutes, I bought it. I have a few to read before I get to it, but I'm looking forward to it.

I dunno she seems like she isn't a vapid writer, her novels are missing a voice.

Just finished Nineteen Minutes which I did enjoy. However, after reading several of her titles I agree that they are getting somewhat formulaic. Although the topics change little else does. The voice of the characters and the settings all seem to blend together after a while for me. I did find Nineteen Minutes particularly haunting in light of the VT situation. If you are looking for the best, I recommend My Sister's Keeper or The Pact. As for who is holding hands on the cover of her new novel, I assumed it was Peter and Josie but who knows.

I haven't read anything by this author yet, but just mooched My Sister's Keeper on BookMooch. Once I receive it and read it, I'll post about it over here.

I just purchased Nineteen Minutes yesterday and am looking forward to reading it. Unfortunately, one of the reasons that led me to buy it after ho huming about it earlier was Virginia Tech. Considering the actions that have just taken place this could be a very interesting read. I have read a few of her other books but My Sister's Keeper is my favorite.

yes. just finished it yesterday. another page turner!! I am in love with her work too and can't stop. definetely pick it up.

I agree. these are the two best ones i've read so far too!

I've had a lot of rereading to do since I mooched that book (#10), but my mom borrowed it last month and said it was wonderful. It's one of four books recently recommended to me. Hopefully, I'll get to read at least two of them before term starts.

So I finished My Sister's Keeper today. I agree with everyone that it's a great book. Based on what the rest of you have had to say about the author's books, I'll probably look for Nineteen Minutes or The Pact next.

I am working my way through her books as well. I have listened to most of them on Audio. So far, I think my favorite one is Plain Truth. RIght now I am listening to Salem Falls.

If you like Jodi Picoult, check out The Rest of Her Life by Laura Moriarty. Her writing style & subject matter reminds me of Jodi Picoult.

I recently read The Tenth Circle, and was disappointed. I've only myself to blame though - I kn ow full well that I'm getting a little bored of her formula, but I like to have something for those times when you feel like a quick, undemanding read.

I am looking forward to trying Nineteen Minutes when it comes out here in paperback though.

My favorite is My Sister's Keeper with Nineteen Minutes in a close second. I ration my Jodi reading, because I don't want to run out of her books. This year I have read Nineteen Minutes and Keeping Faith. I have seen Jodi Picoult speak three times and look forward to her new book this spring which also means a book tour!!
