I just received a copy of the recently published Birds of Southeastern Arizona from Rick Taylor. It is a small, shirt pocket-sized photographic guide with succinct text and helpful figures facing each image. It has been a while since I have birded in the area covered by the book, but at first glance this looks like a very handy contribution, especially perhaps for the beginner. I will look through the book carefully when I get the chance and will hopefully post a few more thoughts here, but for now I would say that this is a book worth considering if you are thinking of birding SE Arizona. Happy birding!

Thanks for the recommendation. I don't know when I'll next make it to Arizona for birding (I've only been twice, both times in March, alas!) but I do know that this will be the one book I take with me in the field. It definitely beats any of the other field guides for specificity in terms of location/season/altitude.

Yes, this SE AZ book by Taylor is worth owning. I posted a review on Amazon last September and on my birdbook website (http://sites.google.com/site/avianreview/Home/review-content/USStatesSW#arizona). The photos are good quality and decent size. What I especially like about it is the showing of the correct local subspecies as well as multiple subspecies. This book also has the best collection of photos for the Mexican vagrants that come into my home state of AZ.
