Just finished this short book, Not actually original, but what a great sense of humour he has, The ending is a bit of a mindbender and you can interperate any way you like! Has anybody else read this book and can tell me there thoughts about the ending? cheers

Yeah, I read it recently. I thought the ending was ok, but overall I felt like the book fizzled.

I read Old Twentieth in 2006, so it's a couple of years since. I don't remember many details, but I thought it was a good book. A typical Joe Haldeman in his stride - not brilliant or spectacular, but a good read. He's levelled out the last decade, few brilliant books but no duds.

I read it several years ago, and so don't remember all the details very clearly, but I enjoyed it, and so did a good friend of mine. We both kind of liked the fact that not everything is explained or wrapped up in the end--it gives you something to think about.

Joe Haldeman never, ever lets you down. Not everything he does is on the level of The Forever War but he always entertains and he always makes you think.

5> I know that's not true for everyone, but I've read a dozen books by him and I have to agree. I wouldn't consider any of those books bad books (which to me usually means it wasn't worth the time I spent reading it).

I don't know if I agree with you. I like most of Haldeman's books and some of them are excellent, but I didn't have any trouble coming up with The Hemingway Hoax and Forever Free as books I didn't think were very good.

Agreed, The Hemingway Hoax was a very frustrating read.

I thought the ending made the book. Without it, it would have been a below average read. As it is, I found it enjoyable, even if it wasn't a superb novel.
