I'm trying to make a decision about what bookshelves to put up, & thought maybe other opinions might help. I have a revolving bookshelf which I really like, which is currently sitting in the area where I am planning to put bookshelves. I can either (A) put rows of wall shelves above the revolving bookshelf, or (B) I can remove the revolving bookshelf and put two 24" wide standing shelves. Although revolving shelves hold a lot of books, option B will hold more books than option A. If I do option B, I'll just put the revolving shelf in storage for future, but for now I have limited space. I also want to do whatever will look the best aesthetically.

Thanks for your opinions!

I take it, then, that there's not room for both? In that case, how much do you want for the revolving bookcase?

Sorry, folks, I'm not selling it. Just trying to decide whether to put it aside until a day when I have more space. On the other hand, I may continue to use it & put a wall shelf above it.

in my case, I was joking. I've seen a few on craigslist & I actually have too many bookcases now, but I have a lot of books, too.

I'd actually put up the bookcases & find another good spot for the revolving one, but my decorating sense is bookcentric & bookaholic.

5: Thanks. I'm just lamenting the fact that I have such limited space, and it has been my dream to have a library since I was a kid. *sigh* I think I could be perfectly happy if I had a library, lol.

I think my wife and I would love to find an old Carnage Library to move into.

The one in Duluth is for sale: $862,000 - US. http://www.cmrasells.com/sales_comm.html

$862,000?? There is a rather scruffy 2-bed bungalow going for about that down the road from us (at today's rate of exchange). I suppose it would cost a fair bit to get the windows cleaned, though.

What was the line from High Society about Duluth?

It looks nice but there are tenets and the shelving is gone. ;-)

Seriously, I did not know Carnage built such large libraries. The ones I am familiar with are about the size of Gilded Age middle class home, that one looked to be the size of an old money mansion.

Some were huge! It depended on what size the community it was to serve. The one in Oklahoma City was very big. Tons of info on Carnegie libraries:
