Sobre mi biblioteca
Ratings explanation: My ratings are reactions, not evaluations. Some books I can recognize as being of high quality, even when I didn't much care for them; others, that I can see are horrendously flawed, nevertheless happened to strike me pleasantly. It's the way they strike me that accounts for the rating, nothing else. If a book isn't rated, it means either that I haven't read it yet, or that I read it so long ago that I don't feel comfortable rating it without rereading.
5 stars:
This is really hard to get unless I've read the book more than once, years apart, and liked the book sufficiently on all occasions. For non-fiction it might be easier: it's usually something I think is really useful.
4 stars: This or higher means recommended.
3 stars: Not exactly recommended, but it means I liked it for some reason.
2 stars: Meh.
1 star: Stinker

Library Contents: At least by bulk, most of my collection is either SF and fantasy, with a fair amount of children's/YA, mystery, and science. (In terms of number of titles, children's might win out by the time I finish cataloguing—you can fit a lot of Berenstain Bears books in a small space!) Most of the non-fiction is advanced popular science (physics predominating), reference, or textbooks.

Tags: All the "@" tags refer to the location where the book is stored; "!" tags name the person who owns a book that I, nevertheless, physically have in my possession. "Inscribed" means signed by the author and personalized; "Autographed" means simply signed by the author. "Children's" refers to anything from board books to YA; someday I'll have to go through and distinguish. Oh, yeah: things tagged both "science fiction" and "fantasy" are really one but feel like the other (most of the Pern books, for example), or are collections containing both; things tagged "science fantasy," on the other hand, are things that look like science fiction, but nonetheless contain magical elements, or are science fiction where the science is so bad (E.R. Burroughs, for example) that you can't take it seriously. Oh, one more thing: I don't use "fiction" as a tag if it would be redundant (i.e., if it's already tagged "science fiction", "fantasy", etc.) unless it's a book that is perhaps more mainstream than whatever genre tag I give it (e.g., Fred Chappell's books definitely have fantasy elements, so I tag them that; but they would never be shelved in the "fantasy" section, so I label them "fiction" also). All other tags should be self-explanatory.

Cataloguing Progress: I started out cataloguing one shelf at a time. . . . It was going kind of slow, because I had to dust while I was at it. It's since slowed down quite a lot, just getting a book in now and then. Actually, I've done most of the house except the library(!), which is such a mess that I don't even like to go in there except to get a particular book out. I'll get to that eventually. Also, relatively few of the books at my office are cataloged yet. There are a few hundred there, mostly children's books but a bit of everything up to calculus and chemistry texts.

Duplicate copies: For those books where I have more than one copy, it's usually two different versions (e.g., paper and HC). When I actually have two identical copies, I add "(copy 2)" to the title of one. A few of these are accidents, and a few were purchased with intent to give one away (or to have one on hand for the purpose should the occasion ever arise), but the bulk are Zoobooks--I didn't realize that they started repeating after a 2-3 year subscription until after about 5 years. (Well, they did change the cover picture, but the text and format are the same.)
