I have an extensive library that reflect a wide range of interests. They include a large number of works of fiction (favorite authors include Dickens, Dostoyevsky, Hardy, Hermann Hesse, Steinbeck, Kazantzakis, and Pat Conroy), European history (particularly late 19th Century central Europe), philosophy, anthropology, and books on the visual arts. As a former professional musician who worked on a dissertation on Gustav Mahler, I am particularly interested in music history and criticism, music theory, and ethnomusicology. As a Jewish man, I read a lot of books on the Torah, mussar (Jewish character improvement), and theology. Finally, as a library professional working in the area of systems, I have acquired and read books on programming languages, Web development, and systems administration. I guess because I work all day (and many nights) on computers - to say nothing of my background in the humanities - I much prefer to read dead tree books as opposed to electronic books (although I do have some Kindle books on my Android).
