Sobre mi biblioteca
The focus of my collection is the Adirondack Park and the area of New York north of it, known as the North Country (some of which is within the park). More specific focus is on the early exploration and history of the park (especially the high peaks area) and the recreational and conservation organizations focused on the areas, especially the Adirondack Mountain Club and the Adirondack 46ers. I also have interests in hiking and mountains throughout the US. Early on I picked up items on other mountains and cold places around the world but soon realized that I could never hope to have a meaningful collection in areas with such a broad literature.
Another focus of the collection has been on antebellum meteorology in the US, and on William Redfield in particular. Redfield was on the first ascent of Mt. Marcy and that is where that side trip began. But the result is one of the most comprehensive you will ever find and reflects a determined period of searching the world wide web to vacuum in anything written by him. Along the way, I acquired a number of items from his contemporaries involved in the Great American Storm Controversy which gave an impetus to the systematic collection of weather data in the US and ultimately the weather bureau.

As to the categories, I am still sorting them out. Most items are originals but there are a few, always mentioned in item description, that are copies (often of rare items). (An example would be the several items consisting of copies of correspondence about naming the high peaks.) These are never listed as rare but may be listed as uncommon if even getting a copy would be very difficult (e.g. a copy of the original "six summits"). Also, some Adirondack items may mostly be about other areas but if they contain even in a single chapter important Adirondack material they meet my criteria.
Some items in "Rare" might really be just "scarce" and the older an item the more likely it will find itself classified as "rare". (The categories are just a sorting mechanism, but some of the items would be "rare" under the strictest definition. There are also some usually ordinary items that because of some special feature are correctly in this category but I haven't described why.) Feel free to disagree with the placement.
Descriptions are incomplete, I admit, especially with respect to the presence of maps, which many items do have. I have not indicated condition usually, but assume vg,and I am more likely to indicate poor condition than any other. Also some day I will indicate signed or inscribed copies (or marked up for that matter) more diligently.
The North Country is generally the Northern Tier of New York counties: Clinton, Franklin, St. Lawrence and Jefferson. Others sometimes use a broader definition, but these are the true North Country. Northeastern mountains category really means New England.
I should some day create a Forestry category and just started ephemera category which should include a number of the items which aren’t really books.
